What retail or fast food chains do you think will be gone in the next 5 years?

r/

Kohl’s has to be one of them! Such expensive stuff and the stores are always empty.

Panera. Private equity buyout, menu quality drop.

    Or I’m just hoping.

  2. Concise_Pirate Avatar

Saks and Guitar Center and JCPenney and Foot Locker are all in rough shape

  3. kanekong Avatar

Jack in the Box has been in piss poor shape these last few years.

  4. JakeSyd3 Avatar

Red Rooster. Australian fast food brand.

  5. Prize-Firefighter513 Avatar

Almost all the fast food chains serve food that tastes like cardboard, and all the best stuff comes from small businesses specific to one store, or a local area., so as far as I’m concerned it would be no great loss if they all died out.

Burger King. I have never seen more than one other customer at a Burger King.

    Kohl’s should def go

Their Kohl’s card starts charging interest at time of purchase

Yet doesn’t update the account for 2 or 3 days online so you can’t see your statement

So really can’t pay because it’s in process and also um that’s not how a credit card is supposed to work

    F*ck Kohl’s

This might be an unpopular opinion but Papa Johns is overpriced and very mid tier compared to dominoes and pizza hut. I’m surprised it’s still open because especially here where I live in the UK, it’s never busy 🤷🏻‍♂️

I wouldn’t be surprised if papa johns went bust within the next 5 years.

I want to say Long John Silvers but those bastards are still making money somehow. At this point I think the heat death of the universe will be the only thing to actually kill Long John Silvers

I’m honestly a little surprised Macy’s is still around. I mean, I know that malls are still successful in certain areas and they’re basically the face of a lot of them, but these days they seem to be used more for a mall entrance than a mall destination.

Well damn, Kohl’s was THE FIRST ONE I THOUGHT OF when I clicked on this…before I was able to read the body of OP’s text.

I have been continually surprised by its longevity. Even 10 years ago I was underwhelmed. JC Penney had better selection and prices (and JC Penney is to this day a fav place to shop, selection is more hit-and-miss now, though). Kohl’s just doesn’t have a good direction to move. Walmart and Target have the department store things covered, except for JC Penney which as mentioned is better at the department store thing, and not doing awesome. Sears coulda done awesome at online given its catalog history, Kohl’s never had that. It’s also not a Ross or Marshall’s. Where’s the market space? At best it’s picked up a few scraps here and there from the Sears and Gordmans and Bed Bath and Beyond and Royal Palais of the world.

Seems like all the Buger Kings are closing. I’ll go with that. Maybe Subway too because the sandwiches are pure shit and overly priced. Panda Express keeps shorting portions. F them all. Shrinkflation has ruined a lot.

  13. themajinhercule Avatar

NOT Long John Silver’s. It’s like fucking Castro, never gonna die (I know he did.)

  14. shlem13 Avatar

    JC Penney.

    Shocked it hasn’t happened already.

    Honorable mention: IHOP.

I love burger king but don’t see it sticking around. Maybe not in 5 years but still..

  16. Azifor Avatar

Subway seems to be dying off.

Steak n Shake, if there’s a benevolent god. That place has taken a sharp nosedive.

  18. magnaton117 Avatar

Here’s hoping 5 Guys dies. Their prices are so absurd it’s incredible that anyone is still buying from them

  19. kindcheeto Avatar

I’m gonna say Outback Steakhouse. Don’t know anyone who’s been there in years.

  20. mick_the_raven Avatar

KFC in my area have constant staffing issues and you never know from one visit to next of they’re going to be open.

  21. Ill_Consequence_1125 Avatar

Kohl’s gets plenty of business in my neck of central WI and still has relatively affordable general clothing, imo. I don’t have any data to back that up, of course. Kohl’s makes work clothes shopping super easy so I would be sad to see them go.

  22. RudyPup Avatar

It really depends. Target is a long way from Bankruptcy but they lost two of their target markets and are getting KILLED.

Taco bell where i live (Australia). The australian taco bell is not cheap, not fresh and not good quality, so why would you go there? Especially compared with their many competitors here who are better in at least 1 of either cost/fresh/quality (the GOAT guzman Y gomez, mad mex, zambreros, salsas etc).

The franchiser here is trying to sell the brand off it failed so hard, so i’d say its days are numbered…

  24. PretendWill1483 Avatar

    long john silvers , hopefully

  25. bgirl20000 Avatar

    Long John Silvers

  26. Adventurous_Toe_1109 Avatar

If there is a god, it would out Long John Silvers out of its misery.

Panera, place has gone majorly downhill and is wildly overpriced.

  28. MMSuggins Avatar

I imagine most of the cookie and nashville hot chicken places will go the way of cupcakes and froyo. Trendy food rarely lasts.

  29. stuff-1 Avatar

Rite Aid drug stores. The one near my house has had almost nothing on its shelves for months.

  30. OG_Dingo Avatar

How has nobody said red lobster lol

  31. jkki1999 Avatar

Carl’s Jr, Foster Freeze. Burger King. KFC. Kohl’s.

  32. Opposite_Educator718 Avatar

Subway, Kohl’s, and Panera. Subway has been on a steady decline sense Jerod and the Ireland debacle. Kohls had to bring in Sephora to attract customers. Panera is just too overpriced in the current market and I don’t see people being willing to pay $30 for a cup of sup and half a sandwich on stale bread. They were great when they first opened but now all three are a product of the capitalist system.

Not necessarily disappear, but MOD pizza might have to close some locations

Honestly I think gamestop is fucked.

  35. inthesunshinex Avatar

Dickies bbq, horrible franchise in my area

  36. lateral303 Avatar

Every Wendy’s seems to be struggling with staffing and quality

  37. joepagejr Avatar

Not Taco Bell. They’ll be the only ones left.

  38. Flirty-Cupcakex Avatar

I hate to say it but Boston Market. Used to love their mac and cheese but the last few times I went the food was cold and the place was empty. The one near my house already shut down and I’ve noticed others closing too.

  39. rondoquando Avatar

How the hell is Arby’s still going

  40. Upper-Damage-9086 Avatar

It won’t be taco bell that’s for sure.

  41. PatchworkGirl82 Avatar

I’m honestly surprised Staples keeps hanging on. I worked there 6 years ago, and kept expecting my store to close at any second.

  42. arb1984 Avatar

Burger King would be my guess. Been closing left and right. Dark horse candidate would be Chipotle
