Why do some people look “tired” even after 8 hours of sleep?

r/

I’ve always wondered this. We hear everywhere that you need to sleep 7-8 hours a night, but I have plenty of friends (and sometimes I do 😅) who sleep well and still have dark circles under their eyes, look exhausted, and have no energy… Is it just the quality of sleep? Diet? Stress? Or are some people just “programmed” to be more tired than others?

I know this may seem like a silly question, but I’d really like to understand. Thanks in advance for your answers 🙏

Its sometimes sleep cycles quality ,diet , exercise ( usually NIL). sitting all day and with a slouch. and the mental victim ( as in you have accepted the fatigue , thunk and you can still have energy)

Dark circles can be genetic or from hay-fever, not necessarily bad sleep

Genetics (my family has dark circles, it’s annoying, especially when stranger feel the need to tell you you look tired), age (without surgery, people’s eyes don’t open as wide at a certain point), diseases that affect looks and energy levels. I wish people stopped caring about other people’s looks.

My guess would be sleep apnea, maybe eating a lot before sleep and inconsistent sleep schedule when waking up not according to body’s circadian rhythm.
Otherwise makes no sense to wake up much more tired and “stiff” than before going to sleep even if it’s only for few hours after waking up.

In my case it started when I had kids and woke up so much at night that even if they didn’t wake up at 4;30 in the morning half the time I wouldn’t have mine dark circles go away.

Could be dehydrated, bad diet, lack of exercise… could be a lot of things!

Sleep apnea, bitches stealing covers, so many different reasons. Quality of sleep is just as important as 8 hours.

All else being equal, if you excersise a lot you will need more sleep that somone else that dosent

I generally need 9-11 hours of sleep a night to feel rested, 8 hours isn’t the amount for everyone

I have like 1000 hours of sleep deficit accumulated, one night won’t make look fresh and awake.

Vitamin deficiencies, chronic health issues, poor quality sleep, allergies, genetics, many different possibilities. Btw way more people are iron deficient than necessarily realise it. I’m not anemic, but my ferritin levels are super low and it makes me exhausted. Doctors won’t generally tell you or help you if you aren’t anemic, but it can still greatly affect energy.

It’s 7-8hrs of quality sleep. The older you get the more stuff hurts and stops you entering a deep sleep. It can even wake you up throughout the night. And the older you get the more your nose changes. I went from never snoring to snoring waking me up. Then allergies became a problem as well.

The reason really old people nap so much is they can’t get quality sleep.

Just because you sleep for 8 hours doesn’t necessarily mean you’re well rested. Dark circles can be genetic and can also mean that you’re dehydrated and need to drink more water.

I have heard it depends on your sleep patterns. Heavy sleepers tend to get the most resting kind of sleep early, so come the morning they are fully refreshed. Light sleepers, on the other hand, tend to get their sleep later, and this can be interrupted by their morning alarm clock. The upshot is that they will feel more tired when they get up in the morning than when they went to bed.

    Nutrient deficiency.

There are multiple mix of reasons and as everyone is different, not all factors influence the body the same way.

They could be sleeping too much.

People get 8 hours of sleep?

  26. angryjohn Avatar

You can definitely get 8 hours of terrible sleep and not be rested. Sleep apnea, too much drinking, stress, too much exercise.
