Im having a really hard time. I found him barely responsive on the floor in his home 4 days ago. The doctors saying he had a stroke and seizures. Seeing him this way is so hard. He’s speaking kind of like a small child and is super weak. He hasn’t gotten out of the bed yet. I’m overwhelmed trying to figure out his insurance and they’re telling me he will need rehab after the hospital stay but idk how I’m supposed to figure all that out. With my own insurance I’d look to see if a place is in network but idk how to do that on his. I have to go to work and be there for my kids and my husband and I don’t know how to handle all of this, my dad doesn’t have anyone else to help him and my brother lives 5 hours away and has a newborn.

The social worker would be a great resource to help you. They can help with insurance coordination and filling out forms, etc. The discharge planner will then work with you in regard to rehab and insurance. I also don’t know if it’s an option for you to apply for disability just to get some time off for yourself to be able to visit your father and alleviate the stress of income for a bit. Please don’t forget to take care of yourself as well ❤️
Are you in the US? Can you use some FMLA time to be there for him so you don’t have to worry about work on top of everything else right now? Make sure to ask his discharge planner any questions you may have, they are there to help you with the transition.
My heart goes out to you. I just found out my mom has terminal brain cancer and am also quite overwhelmed trying to figure everything out for her while also managing my own life. One step at a time, you got this. Wishing him the best recovery!
