physically active men of reddit, where are you at your journey in fitness, when did you start, what is your goal, and how old are you?

r/

we don’t often see posts that are dedicated to fitness and gym goals, think of this as the gym bro locker room talk in which we appreciate our journey and encourage each other.

whether your goal is longevity, general health, mass monster, or powerlifter.

also share a tip or a fitness hack you learned along the way.

I started probably in high school (athlete). Right now my goal is to get back down to 180-190 lbs. I’m currently 205 (corporate America took that from me). I’m currently 25.
Fitness hack is showing up is more than half the battle and while you’re there, might as well get a little workout in. Then most of the time the little workout turns into a full workout

Uhh I mean. I used to be fit when I was younger. Teenage until 21 when the alcohol came. Abs daily workouts the whole 9 yards.

I’ve been on and off but recently gotten back into shape. Not quite where I want to be (toned body with abs) but give me another couple months and I’ll reach it.

Really my goals revolve around health and dating. I want to be healthy again, and look good naked lmao.

I’m beginning cycling this summer on top of my normal gym training so here’s hoping.

I’ve always worked very physical jobs, except as a restaurant manager when I was younger, so I’ve been fairly physically fit my whole life.

Two years ago I started the most physical job I’ve ever had, and slowly the wear and tear on my body became evident. The gym is my solution to steer that away for as long as I can.

I started maybe 6 months ago, and getting it to become a consistent routine has been a bit of a struggle, but I’ve dropped 2% body fat down to 15% and have put on a solid amount of muscle. Body feels better generally, and hopefully I’m more capable for my kids as they grow older.

    I’m 27m btw.

I’m 28. I started lifting a year and half ago. I was super skinny fat, like 155lbs and 30% BF. I was basically skinny everywhere except my belly. Now I’m 165 pounds and 18% BF, so just skinny now, I guess, not ripped or jacked but hey, it’s an improvement.

34m. I started lifting about 10 years ago and started martial arts about 5 years ago. I picked up running about a year ago and I’m hopefully going to run my first half marathon next month. My next goal is to finish a triathlon, hopefully by the end of this summer. I like being active. Makes me feel alive and greatful. We have so much negativity around us that it’s easy to forget how many blessings we have. Having a healthy body is something we take for granted yet it’s literally priceless.

I started at 14. I was obese and weak as shit.
Took me a literal year to bench the empty barbell. Couldn’t run for more than a minute I was in a pitiful state in a family full of athletes.

My goals were to be stronger and have a better endurance.

Now I’m 24 years old, I can bench 3 plates, my best 10km run time was 50 minutes which is not great but not too bad either. I also managed to pull up with 60kg added weight.

A tip? Your diet is the fuel for how you look and perform at the gym.
Also, try to consistently improve at the gym. If you always end your sets with reps left at the tank its the same as being paid with your employer having spare change in his pocket. Its better than nothing but it will take you a lot longer to get a house.

And obviously don’t compare yourself to anyone, I used to be so insecure for being weak and fat and then weak and skinny and I thought I’d never get to a good physique or strength, guess what? It took me years but damn was it worth it. I’ll be 30 one day, I prefer to be a 30 year old that benches 4 plates than one that can’t do 1 you know? So I’ll keep working.

As for goals, my goals up until the end of 2026-

160kg bench press at a bodyweight of 90kg or lower

    70kg weighted pull up

Running half a marathon in under 2 hours (I would love to do it in under 01:40 but I don’t believe its too realistic especially with me running a lot less now)

I [24M] was very inactive and overweight until just a few months ago. I’ve been going to the gym since I was 16 but was very inconsistent (couple of months on, years off). A few months ago I got consistent in the gym, did cardio actively and got my nutrition right. I’m now at a healthy weight and pursuing bodybuilding as a hobby.

I’m 39. I play rugby and practice karate. My fitness goal is to not be a liability for my team when I’m on the pitch. So I try and do some cardio and weight lifting when I can find the time. Currently, I’m one of the better forwards on my team. So I guess I’m doing well enough with it.
