It’s ok for the most part. We’ve a housing crisis and the health system is a bit fucked but in the grand scheme of things we don’t have crazy weather and no one is trying to go to war with us and most people have a job and a pretty good life
My country is so cooked, our politicians are so openly corrupt, minimum wage is on the floor, foreign jobs are hard to find cause my country has a very bad rep and people tend to think you’re a scammer, inflation is at an all time high and just keeps getting worse
We (Australia) have our federal elections next month, so that’s interesting.
The tariffs craziness will impact us – some directly, some indirectly (since China is our largest trading partner, accounting for a third of our exports) – but it’s not clear exactly how much.
Other than that, nothing too exciting going on here. We’re doing quite well actually, but I’m sure others will disagree because people like to focus on anything negative.
Despite the chaos here, overall it’s really good to live here.
And I don’t remember the USA as I never even wanted to visit.
That’s why I chose Europe and Asia to go backpacking and get out of the Americas for a bit (although I really want to go to Guatemala).
Austria: Incompetent leaders halting any real progress. As is tradition since decades.
Also, our far right is influenced by Russia and since Trump they’re somehow also a fan of him. While our far left is busy discussing if it’s racism to suggest that maybe not every single human beeing has a right to gain our citizenship.
Meanwhile our central left and central right are only interested in who sits on which chair in the parliament or how they can extract as much money as possible out of their position.
The bin men (garbage collectors) have been on strike in Birmingham for weeks now over pay. Bin bags are stacked as high as busses. Rats have become a large problem too
Waiting for our new coalition government to get the economy back in shape… I mean, one can dream, right? Still, it’s better than having putin-puppet fascists in the government.
In my opinion no candidate is worth half a vote. Subreddit goes ape-shit about how everyone should vote for liberal candidate that does everything in their power not to get elected. My rural family is raving drunkenly about voting for the guy who attacked some jewish candlestick with fire extinguisher.
Russia is flying into our airspace repeatedly to provoke us, but we ain’t gonna call in NATO for help over plane like USA pussies.
Presidential election in a month. Hopefully we can finally get a normal president in since the current one is an obstructionist idiot still left over from the previous party in power which has been blocking any serious clean up effort from the current government after the conservative take over 9 years ago.
Here they’ve just impeached one president after he declared martial law. Now there’s another election coming up . All the while protests are happening every other day. How crazy is it you ask ? Here you go.
Pretty good. Just coming to the end of our long easter weekend where lots of us got paid to stay home and drink and BBQ and fish and stuff. Interest rates are coming down and apart from our Superannuation balances taking a hit due to Americas new Orange diaper king life’s pretty good.
Our government is preparing a plan after president (i forget who) from (i forget where) has decided to place tariffs on our exports,
Other than that, it’s just about anzac day here and i’m preparing to march for the first time in a parade since i returned from afghanistan in 2008 because our (unsure of) ally decided to wage a war on terror.
We have two colours of conservatives now… The Blue Tories and the Red Tories. So basically a duopoly that is just as bad as each other. When we are not dealing with the fallout from these fuckwits we are dealing with other right wing nut jobs like Reform UK that isn’t even a Party, it’s a F’n company! Farage spends more time in the US sucking up to donors that actually, you know, doing his F’n job as an elected MP for Clacton. Meanwhile we have GB News that swares blind that it’s not an F’n News channel but an entertaining channel but it still gets to have politicians on daily news spouting their vile lies and bullshit.
The Blue Tories have taken over the BBC so we now have State Pravda and we have to pay for the F’n privilege of that too by law. Our state energy market means we pay they highest energy bills in Europe, our telecoms industry is way behind other developed countries and our MSM is all owned by right wing billionaires with the exception of just two papers.
Our public services have all been privatised so that rich forks can milk the public while providing ever shittier services, or in the case of water services just dump the shit straight into our rivers! Our NHS has been squeezed dry by successive Tories since Thatcher to the point it’s not on its knees, it’s on its F’n face! Our civil rights are eroded on a daily basis with facial recognition systems being rolled out in Cardiff and no doubt very soon across every F’n town in the UK even though councils don’t even have enough money to pay for bin collection and rubbish is piling up in the streets.
Meanwhile, thousands of people are jobless and being ever more squeezed into poverty and / or bankruptcy.
I could go on and on about how greed, corruption and apathy have systematically destroyed the UK from within. But who the fork is going to do shit about it!?
Life is alright. Job hunting for tech is not fun. Deciding if i want to give up on it since I just passed my CCNA certificate last october. TBH think ill be working a dead end job forever.
As an American myself this post is so refreshing, I’m tired of waking up to “NEW IMPENDING DOOM TYPE SHIT” every fuckin day, like I still have to wake up to it but at least I can scroll and find something besides “oh look there go your rights”
ETA: anyone got advice on the best country to flee to as someone who is Black and trans and queer?
Live in outback Australia here. We’re seeing and hearing a lot of trump-esque behaviour. Local pollys are modelling campaigns after him. It’s honestly scaring the fuck out of me ngl
For decades we were tiptoeing between US and China as ally. Then Trump just literally push us off the cliff into China. Xi just came by and signed so much deal it’s crazy.
I’m an American in Bahrain right now. It’s going pretty good. It’s hot here, food is cheap. I went to the dentist yesterday, it was a lovely experience.i don’t know ow the political climate here, so that’s nice to not hear about
Economy is rising at breakneck speed, unemployment is decreasing steadily and living standards are good thanks to a robust social framework.
If you ‘d listen to the rightwinger cliques they would paint It as rampant inmigrant crime, a corrupt government always teetering on collapse and an oppressive tax systems but stats show a different reality.
There are many problems still, starting with an atrocious housing situation, unemployment still above average, a couple corruption scandals, too much money on few hands and conflicting agendas slowing down needed reforms but as a 50 year old Who has lived through all Spain’s democratic era, they are not much compared to the dark days of the past.
We have somewhat successfully integrated a huge inmigrant population upswing, crime is low, no terrorism, the far right mostly eats votes off the conservatives, polítics are stable despite the constant doomsaying coming off the right…
So there is a lot of room for improvement but I look outside and can’t help to feel fine and the future rosy.
That is, unless The Cheeto crashes the world’s economy and the subsequent backlash allow right wingers to win elections allied with the far right and we are forced to go back to less taxes, austerity and constant culture wars.
Nah everything is very expensive, housing crisis is a bit better but still. We also have to fund our non existent army (1000 troops) again. But i still love living in a little village here. Back from uni last week, saw all my childhood friends was a blast.
garbage. the us bullshitery is trying to win our election and if it does im leaving the country. also rich assholes doing what they do and buying even the non cheeto politicians
South Africa – 30+ years later – same old corrupt politicians seeing how fast they can loot the tax coffers and making themselves and their cronies billionaires whole ignoring their fellow ‘previously disadvantaged’ black brothers plight. All while blaming the whites for everything wrong in the world.
Infrastructure getting stripped and destroyed under the eyes of police, with no consequences.
But otherwise, having a braai and going back to work again tomorrow
OP this was a great question to ask as an American to a) get out of ourselves and b) gain good insight of the political climates in other countries. Kinda puts things into perspective that we’re not the only country with political turmoil AND how our mess is influencing other countries. 👍🏽
Elections coming soon. Most of the senatorial candidates are absolute CLOWNS. Our Vice President is unhinged and has started a vendetta against our President. Oh if i weren’t a citizen of this god damned country i’d be so entertained with the shit show we call the Philippine Government.
UK here… Labour made some missteps (Farmers and Benefits change mainly), but given the absolute dog shit sandwich then were left with it could be worse.
I can afford a Cuppa and a Fried Egg Sandwich, so life could be worse.
The democratically elected president of our country saw an opponent as a thread so first he made his college diploma invalid so he won’t race next time and then put him in jail for corruption in less than 24 hours, despite 1) his diploma has been questioned since day one 2) corruption accusations come from secret whistleblowers who based their claims only on eavesdropping and some gossip. First college students took to the streets and then people all over the country.
Then the government decided to move dissident teachers of the established high schools and this time high school students started to protest.
I think they’re trying to create a rebellious generation for the future lol.
The politicians are fighting over religion and language and so are the radicalised masses while everyone ignores development and education. Same old, same old
As a Canadian, I am terrified, but slightly less terrified than I was a year ago. Last year, we were on track to elect our own version of Trump who wants to kill our public broadcaster, cut down on federal workers, ban every thing that isn’t “Christian” enough, and hate on immigrants, and all that Trumpian shit. But thanks to the election of Trump, things have changed and we are most likely looking at a better Prime Minister staying on. But I still feel that the rise in the far-right will eventually lead to Canada going down the same dark path the US is headed down.
Pretty fucked up tbh. I’m in Alberta, Canada and for those who give a shit we are desperate in this moment to not be captured by American politics. The bleeding influence is such a headache.
Hungarian here. I’m sick of it, we’re the joke of europe. The government is in the process of banning protest in the disguise of “protecting children” and blaming it on the lgbtq+ community. In the meantime, prices are skyrocketed AGAIN, they’re basically punishing hungarian owned small(er) businesses with even more taxes, our healthcare system is almost dead, no teachers, schools have to close all the time, but country pubs are getting money so our dear government can support alcoholics and give absolutely no support to the women they beat at home because they won’t care about women yay
We’re in the middle of an election that will determine if we are going to slide into fascism just like our neighbours to the south.
Our housing crisis is extreme, due to both sides abandoning public housing over the past 40 years.
Our health care system is being dismantled in favour of a private system, which we already know is a disaster for everyone but those making money from it.
Vietnam: everything’s normal in our day to day lives but people are starting to get worried about the tariffs. No immediate impact happening yet tho.
I think people are starting to spend less lately, with all the uncertainties going on. The common people here just want to live in peace and save up for their kids’ education.
In the UK watching as nobody cares thousands of disabled people are going to lose their incomes, homes, and lives over the next few years. Here’s a description of somebody who will lose all benefits and be expected to work full time in the UK under planned welfare reforms:
cannot cook without somebody prompting them
cannot eat unsupervised
needs assistance to wash their lower body
needs assistance to dress their lower body
needs supervision to use the toilet
nonverbal, uses an alternative communication device
People are protesting because a little girl (nicknamed Cwe Cwe) was raped at her school and justice was not given. When the mother went to the police for help they were not helpful. When she went to the school to request info on who was there the daughter was expelled for no reason. This happened October last year. And the authorities only started doing something when it got traction on social media. When they went to the school to get samples only 2 staff members gave them but the principal refused. It’s a really disgusting situation and it’s still unfolding
Although it looks like things are improving, corruption is actually at an all time high, it’s obvious and there’s nothing to do but to protest because the justice system is under their control.
Our army is weak as fuck and we have a war at the eastern border.
We are at the top of the rankings in EU on teen pregnancy, illiteracy, alcohol consumption, inflation, human trafficking, videochat, deaths due to hospital contracted infections and others that I can’t remember now.
Inflation is still going strong while housing costs are increasing and it doesn’t seem to slow down soon.
Gas, electricity, car insurance are all increasing due to the incompetence of the government and controlling bodies to do anything that means not filling their pockets and hiring their family and friends into the system.
Elections for president are coming and oh boy get in for a ride:
• The corruption squad (PSD PNL and UDMR) are backing up a candidate. This candidate was on a political break for 10 years. He and others tried to usurp the president (twice) in what was an attempted coup, because they controlled everything but the presidential administration, anf that’s what they lacked to have full control. They took a lot of power from the president then, and now it’s just the supreme army leader, secret service leader and an external politics puppet.
• The extermist conservative candidate which has strong ties to the socialist party PSD, is known to meet with russian assets and is persona non grata in a number of countries. He took over the mantle from the candidate that was blocked by the constitutional court by first cancelling the elections and after not allowing him to run again. He swears to reinstate said blocked candidate once he takes power and is a big MAGA fan.
• The mayor of Bucharest – with strong ties to PNL and the secret service. The lad is smart, has started a lot of good stuff in Bucharest, but me personally I don’t think he’s fit for being a president, more of a Prime Minister actually.
• Another extremist but more MAGA focused with strong ties to PSD, former prime minister, proven corrupt and political chameleon, literally a lying cunt that deserves nothing but to rot in a prison.
• Progressive center woman candidate, which was supposed to go to the second round of election with the before mentioned candidate that provoked the cancellation. Now she was dropped by her party USR to support the mayor of Bucharest but it was done illegally, as the electoral comision says you can’t support another candidate other than the one you declared. Legal battle is ongoing, won by her but later appealed. She is now at 4-8% depending on the poll you consult but that’s a massive drop from the 18% she got in December. Seems to be the only candidate that is truly not connected to anything from the current regime, and she is very vocal about it, sometimes speaking on subjects she doesn’t quite grasp.
• The other candidates are irrelevant unless another Calin Georgescu appears and jumps from 1% to 25% overnight.
The parliament is fucked as 30% are extremists, 50% are the old guard and 20% are actually trying to change something for the better.
Great and terrible simultaneously in the Netherlands.
Yes, there are various great advances in science and companies like ASML have been growing. We have a lot of influence around the world.
But the housing market is horrible. The average house price is like 500.000 euros, fluctuating in several cities. Rent prices are too high. I have been registered for social housing for around 2 years, but still when i apply for a house hundreds of people are already waiting before me.
Prices in supermarkets have been going up too last few years. More so than in neighbouring countries. In fact, supermarket chain “albert heijn” sometimes has lower prices for the exact same products coming from the exact same country (sometimes even the netherlands itself) in Belgium. So we know sometimes prices are just artificially inflated.
I don’t get that despite all issues we have in our country with housing, we are still taking in migrants, asylum seekers, etc. Cities and town leaderships are getting pushed and pushed to “find more housing” but sometimes this is not possible any more. That might sound like a bigoted or “rightist” opinion but i see it in my city that i and thousands of other people are unable to find a house. I find it therefore irresponsible that we keep accepting in people from outside the city and sometimes they even get a preference treatment in finding social housing. In fact, city governments were mad that they were not allowed to give people from outside the city a preference treatment and that infuriates me because there are thousands of other citizens who live with their parents in their late 20s or 30s or are in a unbearable situation that need a house. (https://nos.nl/artikel/2556233-kabinet-klaar-om-statushouders-voorrang-op-woning-te-ontnemen-gemeenten-verbijsterd)
Sometimes it feels like they want to keep their own citizens drowning while laying down the red carpet for new ones.
Great here in Canada. Election underway so the people get to choose a new government of their choice. Democracy is still alive and well here but we must be careful that we don’t go the way of our neighbours to the south.
Welfare is being slashed, money meant to keep old people warm in winter was cut, trans rights are being diminished, and this is after the two children benefit cap saga which would have given a break to struggling families. All from a government party that is supposed to be looking out for the working class.
The US also wants us to relax our hate speech laws to get a better deal during this insane tariff war.
Ireland here. Apart from the housing crisis, and the sudden influx of Americans who now want to flee to ‘Urope and have chosen Ireland purely because we speak English….all good.
Good bit of consumer caution. We’ve had unusually good weather this spring, but the bloody rain is back.
Perú. Panic and fear. Crime rates increasing, entire country in state of emergency, the army is deployed (they don’t do shit), and our president has like a 5% of the people in our country supporting her. Massively hated. There were also big medical emergencies due to a saline solution mistake at producing them, contaminating them with an ‘unknown’ substance that has already killed 6 people. School food program gave severe food poisoning to hundreds of children, food doesnt even look like food whatsoever. Could continue but my point is proven. Looking to leave to Spain continuing my studies, in an abroad university medicine program.

About to have an election so just fantastic.
It’s ok for the most part. We’ve a housing crisis and the health system is a bit fucked but in the grand scheme of things we don’t have crazy weather and no one is trying to go to war with us and most people have a job and a pretty good life
The US wants to take us over
My country is so cooked, our politicians are so openly corrupt, minimum wage is on the floor, foreign jobs are hard to find cause my country has a very bad rep and people tend to think you’re a scammer, inflation is at an all time high and just keeps getting worse

But otherwise things aren’t too bad honestly.
gun violence and grenade bombings are increasing on a weekly basis in Brussels, (We don’t sell guns like in the states) So that’s fun.
So boiling hot here it’s hard to care about anything right now.
The bin men (garbage collectors) have been on strike in Birmingham for weeks now over pay. Bin bags are stacked as high as busses. Rats have become a large problem too

Going well! Gives you hope for the global south.

Terrible. The president is a druggie.
I can’t wait for next year’s election, our government is so incompetent I’m surprised they get anything done.
Things are pretty good here, Aussie.
Italy: shit
It’s mostly fine. There’s a bit of an economic and demographic crisis though.
Pretty bad. Prices are going up. Laws are crazy. LGBT + are not allowed. All our money go to war. Establishment keeps stealing from budget..
I’m pretty contented here in Canada. I don’t let the news get to me because nothing lasts forever. Maybe prices will rise. I’ll survive.
Horrible. My country just went through a 14 year long civil war and we’re trying to rebuild. Though the country is really suffering from disunity.
in Malta – corruption, moronic opposition, no competition for the current government, uncontrollable traffic, long wait time at Clinics and Hospital.
Just another day I guess. Could be worse

Not sure. I’ve forgotten which country I’m from.
Energy bills rapidly rising, rent has risen double the pay rise I get for the last 3 years. Food costs more each month.
On the whole of it, it could definitely be worse, but it sure has been better!
Badly, because of the US…

It just seems that our people are is deceived.
We were the most democratic country in the Arab world but now we went back to dictatorship (Tunisia).
I think we’re doing fine. I haven’t heard much bad on the news. We’re a very boring country.
Not good. Our head of state died (vatican city)

My country recently passed a transphobic law
So, not ideal
Originally from the UK, but my country is now Zanzibar I guess (been here 14ish years).
Two dudes tried to steal underground electricity cables last night, so a large chunk of the island has no power while they fix it.
We’re in the rainy season now. It’s quiet – less tourists at this time of year.
Pretty fucked up tbh. I’m in Alberta, Canada and for those who give a shit we are desperate in this moment to not be captured by American politics. The bleeding influence is such a headache.
Philippine peso strengthens against the dollar, delighting my tourist relatives currently in the US.
we are currently going through our elections and have to decide which is the lesser evil -australia
Australian election coming up. Dutton losing in the polls cos he’s too much like Trump.
Everything is going down very fast, exept the prices…
We’re bootlicking the US as hard as possible so they don’t keep their stupid tariff rates on us.
I’m from Sudan, not good man… Not good.

Hint: their leader congratulated trump for victory in 2020 before the results were known.
Maple MAGA is on the cusp of a coup.
In the UK watching as nobody cares thousands of disabled people are going to lose their incomes, homes, and lives over the next few years. Here’s a description of somebody who will lose all benefits and be expected to work full time in the UK under planned welfare reforms:
People are protesting because a little girl (nicknamed Cwe Cwe) was raped at her school and justice was not given. When the mother went to the police for help they were not helpful. When she went to the school to request info on who was there the daughter was expelled for no reason. This happened October last year. And the authorities only started doing something when it got traction on social media. When they went to the school to get samples only 2 staff members gave them but the principal refused. It’s a really disgusting situation and it’s still unfolding
Hi from Romania!
It has never been worse here in the Netherlands but that still means that we’re doing pretty okay overall.
“May you live in uninteresting times.” — traditional Swiss blessing
Not good ngl
If I call my country a country I will immediately offend 1.4billion people
