Someone posted recently about putting a fork in a microwave and it gave me an instant flashback to a time during my school years that I put a knife in the toaster to see what would happen.
Firstly, I still don’t know exactly where I got the idea from, just that you grow up innately knowing that it’s something you shouldn’t do, but this kind of makes you want to do it more. Now before even judging me from the title of this confession, I’m not a total idiot. I didn’t use a completely metal knife, I made sure it has plastic on the end and even then, wrapped this around a tea towel.
I figured that learning about plastics not conducting electricity in my chemistry class was enough to put this to the test. So I pushed down the toaster, has a little look at those bright red rows of light, thought will it really be that bad? Then gave it a good poke.
I was sort of expecting sparks and electricity, but instead the whole kitchen lights dimmed, then got bright and then dimmed again before I took it away, probably only around a second. It felt sort of powerful to be able to control electricity like that.
Toaster seemed to work fine after, but didn’t use it for a year afterwards after my dad sneezed on it so don’t know for sure. Kitchen lights always seemed a little bit dimmer, but reckon that was just me.
All in all minimal harm done, would do again in a controlled environment.

I stuck my finger in a light socket once as a kid. I learned real fast ehy you don’t do that lol
I’m surprised you didn’t pop the upstream breaker. The dimming was just because you diverted a bunch of that circuit’s current to be shorting through your knife’s blade. If you would have held on longer, that plastic handle would have melted.
I did the same, it made the power for the whole house trip lol
I once tried to do it, but my husband stopped me. Same with pressing a blender (the nutribullet one) with the blades on and without the glass… maybe that’s why he’s always watching me what I’m doing in the kitchen, but tbh I really want to know what can happen.
This just reminded me that my son had the brilliant idea to sharpen a crayon with an immursion blender. That ended in stitches.

I used to do it a lot as a teenager and nothing ever happened. I used to try and bend the elements when they were red hot.
We then got a new toaster and I was surprised to get an electric shock.
I once stapled my finger to see what would happen
It hurt.
Oh just the other week I left a fork in the microwave by accident. Luckily it was prongs down in some liquid so nothing happened but it was certainly a moment when I noticed
Did this with tweezers and the bathroom socket once while brushing my teeth. Did not protect myself in any way just fully gave in to the impulsive thought. Didn’t get hurt at all somehow but did blow a breaker. 👍
