Things feel pretty bad here in America, I’d imagine the worst they could be with just overall stability in terms of politics, economics etc.
But also wondering if I’m just biased because I’m young and maybe things have felt just as bad in the past eg. Post 9/11, Great Depression, Vietnam etc.

I’m 70 and no. There weredidfixulg times – Vietnam, the string of assassinations starting with JFK then RFK, MLK Jr, etc, but there were three differences:
There was lots of dissatisfaction, division, bombings, riots, etc in the late 60s, early 70s. That’s infanthood and toddler days for me so I have no real memories of that stuff, but I believe that era was more divided and unstable than our current era, so far anyways.
Not since the times leading up to the revolution and civil war
The instability has been created by MAGA the acronym meaning Morons Are Governing America.
About every 20years champ
I remember having bomb drills in grade school in the 60s, but that wasn’t because of the States. We feared Russia and Cuba. Never the States. In our school, close to the American border, we knew the words to the pledge of alliance as well as we knew Oh Canada.
The civil rights/anti-war era seemed pretty unstable to me as a child at time. Still i don’t think we believed we’d lose America entirely
Our president isn’t sane and that’s scary. But frankly, to act like we’re in the worst times is an insult to people who did. My grandfather was at war when my mother was born and he didn’t meet her until she was 4. My cousin was drafted to Vietnam and has agent orange health issues to this day. I lost a firefighter friend in 9/11. Going back further, my great uncle was wounded in WW1 and could never work or marry.
Could things get worse? Sure. Keep things in perspective because a lot of people in the world don’t have time to contemplate their real life sacrifices on social media. They’re living the worst. We’re not.
It felt pretty unstable in the 60s. Black people were demanding shock, RIGHTS, and we were protesting the Vietnam war, and kids were not listening to parents, but running off to Drop Out, and Tune In. Drugs were on the scene. Retuning veterans were messed up and strung out.
But there was this crazy kind of Hope in the air, like if we just changed the way we thought, we could change the world. Black people got (some) rights. We got the Americans With Disabilities Act. Efforts were made to curb pollution. The War was very unpopular with everyone. We were making progress.
Now our government is trying to destroy the very systems that got them elected. They want to rip down every bit of progress we’ve made since 1930. And they want to destroy the whole world.
I never recall a “carving Swastikas into cars” period.
