I can’t tell you how many times in school I’ve gotten assignments that have little to no learning involved and you just need to write down something from a book and answer questions you can find in the book without even trying and learning about it.
Schools also seem to congratulate students with higher grades rather than actually being smart and it sucks because there’s a ton of people in school who are really smart but can’t get because everyone else can get a good grade without even trying.
Also colleges seem to only care about your GPA and not actually based on what you are good at learning

this isn’t unpopular, it’s the fact of the matter lol.
You might be surprised to learn that getting info from books to answer questions is learning. You had to figure out what info in the book was relevant to the question. Being able to do that over and over again is an important skill
Are you just now being introduced to the effects of standardized testing in a country that doesn’t value education or intelligence? Guessing you’re in the US.
Always has been
I’ve had exams or stupid tests on pointless subjects with higher stakes on my whole life than actual jobs I did where I had to save actual lives or prevent companies to lose millions
Always feel like than school was taken way more seriously than real life is
but I think that’s how life is made
We are moving more and more towards result driven society instead of process driven, so this is a logical development.
School prioritizes grades. Grad rates are to schools as profits are to corporations.
But if I put a science book in front of you, do you wait for the teacher to tell you to take out your materials, put your phone away, etc or do you open the book yourself and read.
You can treat school as a set of challenges to overcome. If you know that you did your best – don’t wait for the teacher to tell you or compare yourself to friends – your grades will be your grades.
Just because a system ostensibly seems to be about X doesn’t mean you have to abide by X.
It’s like when people say “the Bible is banned in schools, kids can’t read the Bible”. This is patently false. We’re not Sunday School. And you can read the Bible whenever.
I hear this sentiment all over the place
not even that. it’s about indoctrination of kids. not even about getting the grades. had it been getting the grades, and had the kids been being taught useful science, math, reading and history, it would still be considered a good deal. they’re just being indoctrinated by the leftists. they figured out their ideas have less resistance if the kids are indoctrinated at young age where they can’t think.
thus the shit fucking show we call the education system. there is no fix.
if only there was some way we could test the students on what they’ve learned
I remember sitting at the table as a young kid getting screamed at by my parents for not finishing multiple pages of times tables perfectly… hours a night. Once I made it to highschool I was so burnt out and completely turned off from school. I diddnt care at all, diddnt do any homework, skipped school. I don’t resent them for it, they were learning how to be parents just as I am now. but the way they pressured me so heavily at such a young age burnt me out.
Now? Uhmmm, no. It’s always been like that.
Always been
The unspoken purpose of the modern school system is to keep kids busy enough so that the parents can work full time and have somewhat free time left uninterrupted after work lol.
Its always been like that since i can remember (im 37). Its not about learning. Its about memorization and repeating information. Its a game. Its not about generating knowledge through experience. Its like thst even at my job. They want me to take all this training all of the time that’s not relevant to my job. People get praised for all the hours of training they did but none of them are able to do anything with it.
School is and has always been about memorization.
Colleges don’t care anything than your money lol. The whole school system is just to funnel you into paying for college at the end. It’s kind of like a souvenir shop in a museum except they’ve done a real good job at making you think you “need” college.
It’s about preparing you for standardized tests. That’s how teachers and schools are graded
GPA is a representation of work ethic, SAT is a representation of intelligence, Essays represent your character.
Now? It was like this 25 years ago when I was in school. It’s disappointing. But this isn’t new unfortunately. Despite what school rewards, always prioritize learning over grades for yourself. Learn to find joy in learning, rather than playing the grades game. Enjoying learning will pay more dividends in the long-run.
Also, regarding college, it is necessary for some career paths, like the sciences. But college isn’t necessary for many, if not most, career paths.
Most jobs are too.
Why would a college not care about your GPA? A low one shows you’re not good at learning lol you can argue oh I’m neurodivergent or I’ve got ptsd from my hamster dying when I was 6, but there’s literal quantified data showing you’re bad at school. Why would a school invite you to come be a student when you’ve already shown you can’t even succeed in the easier version?
That’s always been the case. You go to school to pass exams not learn valuable skills 😬
