I pretend to not know what common objects are called just to see how people react

It’s a great conversation starter

That sounds like the majority of post here on Reddit.

Examples?  Claiming ignorance of a paperclip might look more plausible than doing so for a spoon.

  3. Ne0n_R0s3 Avatar

I myself genuinely can’t remember sometimes. So I’ll just describe it, it is honestly hilarious seeing reactions (though I don’t mean it)

What the fuck is a potato.

  5. CozySoftBlankets Avatar

You’ve never heard of a potato, have you

  6. Alone-Notice-5552 Avatar

That’s hilarious. I’m going to do that today 😄

That’s my type of humour and people don’t understand it, always think I’m serious

Like the other day I pretended not to know what Roman numerals were and said that we use normal people numbers in Canada because we aren’t Roman, and the person exploded

When they were super popular, any time someone mentiond lord of the rings or Harry Potter I’d say something like lord of the what? or harry who? i’ve seen neither so not a complete lie.

It’s a lot easier to pretend to be stupid than to pretend to be intelligent
I was always told it is better if they think they know more than you

  10. Illustrious-Goose160 Avatar

I’m curious, could you share some examples of the common objects you used for this? And some of the reactions you got?

  11. PretendReveal2164 Avatar

    Wow you’re cool..

  12. Loose-Employ-599 Avatar

What exactly is a common object?

  13. CityAura Avatar

I would get annoyed so fucking fast lmfao my comedy is weird, but this is just different than I altogether. Haha

  14. sitanfuerte Avatar

What is that? A hamburger, you say ? What does it taste like ? Hmmmm.

  15. dixie2tone Avatar

i say words wrong all the time just to throw people off. like “smoovie” instead of smoothie. very fun, for me anyway

Btw it’s normal life of many foreigners abroad when they don’t know the language yet, unintentionally do that pretty much every day.

  17. Zoilo2 Avatar

It depends on what the definition of is is.

I convinced a saleswoman in a shoe store once that I had never heard of Nike.

She was losing her shit until finally I said

    “I’m fucking with you.”

  19. fractal_sole Avatar

Man it’s okay to admit that you don’t know what a potato is.

  20. Not_Cletus_McWanker Avatar

    Wish I was pretending.

  21. Still_Protection_722 Avatar

I do that too because I know way too much minutia that would drive people nuts. So I pretend to be about 70 IQ points lower than I reliable scored (164) and I love it! “Where’s Western Streeet?” “Oh…your’re right on it, let me tell you more!” (Good I don’t have to talk and accidentally go onto a weird mathematical functoriality argument).

I like to do this with every day concepts. Like casually saying “my partners” and if anyone asks what I mean just be like “uh… You don’t have any yet?”

“no I’m confused by what you want me to explain, I’m trying to figure out why you only have one so far”
