Where are you going that’s so important that you can’t possibly endure a minor 2-second inconvenience of someone being in your way at the grocery store? I agree that some people clearly lack self-awareness, but to me that’s not as bad as having such poor emotional regulation that you lash out at someone who dares to pause for a second at the top of the escalator to look around and get their bearings. Just politely say “excuse me” and move on with your life. It’s not that serious.

I agree with your point in general. But your example is terrible. Standing at the top of the escalator is fucking dangerous.
next time don’t be standing in someone’s way & you won’t get chewed out. people get mad bc it’s not lack of spacial awareness, it’s self-centeredness. you’re not thinking about anyone in the world
To me this is serious, some cultures have no concept of physical boundaries and sometimes touch too much.
I find that quick withdrawal is the bare minimum way of educating them.
I agree with your opinion when it comes to older or disabled people though
The desire around the mindset is not the point, it’s the outcome. People with spatial awareness issues should probably experience a little shame since their parents didn’t teach them to be considerate of their surroundings, it’s time for nature to deliver the consequences of that failure and hold people accountable.
I mean, I agree that we shouldn’t lash out at them, but not respecting other people’s space is right up there with not respecting other people’s time (being chronically tardy) in legitimate reasons to be upset at someone.
For most people it’s not a mistake, they just don’t give a fuck that they’re inconveniencing other people. Though i agree that you shouldn’t lash out, people really need to start being more aware of their surroundings.
In your example is dangerous
While waiting for them to move, more people are coming on the escalator. You need to move out the way. Find your bearings to the side
