Assistance in Terminating a Nebula Membership

r/

I’m 18 years old and want to know how to handle my internet subscription. I chose to download the app since it seemed interesting and the trial was affordable. I’m having problems figuring out how to cancel right now, so I would appreciate some helpful advice.

The website’s cancellation procedure is challenging to use, and I’m not sure if I completed it correctly. Additionally, I reached out to customer service, but they were unable to offer any clarification. Since I’m new to handling online subscriptions and don’t want my parents to know, I’m contacting you for assistance.

Is there anyone who knows what to do in such circumstances? Have you previously used any similar internet services? I would also appreciate any feedback on how to handle subscriptions in order to avoid issues in the future. I would value your advice in the comments to gain knowledge from your experiences.

I apologize if this is a little unclear; I’m still figuring this out. Please direct me to a better subreddit if this isn’t the appropriate place to ask. Thank you so much for your assistance!

Did you do your membership through the app? Do you have iOS or android? If you have iOS you very well may have done your subscription through your Apple account rather than through their subscription services.

first, check your email for a cancellation confirmation, then log back into the app to confirm the status, and if it’s still active, email customer service again with a firm but polite message. I’ve used similar apps for mindfulness and fitness, and they often hide the cancel option in the settings.

To fix it, check if you signed up through a third party like Google Play or the App Store – sometimes you have to cancel there instead of the website. That’s what I did, and it worked instantly.

had to deal with a music app subscription my son forgot to cancel. What I did was call the bank to block any future charges from the app since the website wasn’t cooperating. It took a quick phone call, and they sorted it out. I’ve used similar services myself, like audiobook apps, and some make cancellation harder than it should be

Look for a “contact us” form on their website and submit a cancellation request there

Attempt to cancel it again. Save the proof. If they charge you, dispute it with the bank and submit a copy of you trying to cancel your membership. Worst case, you cancel your card so they can’t continue to charge you.

Report the card you used for the subscription as lost or stolen. It will be shut down immediately and a new card with a new number will be issued.

Some pro tips, depending on circumstances:

    • If you subscribe with Apple or Google, there’s usually a way to manage your subscriptions within the app stores, which I like because it’s a consistent experience across all the services, even if it can be hard to find the place. Instructions for iPhone and Android. For outside the app stores:
    • If you can, always pay with a credit card. This assumes you treat your credit card like a debit card (pay it off every month and don’t spend what you don’t have). Credit cards have a lot better protections as you are asking the bank to get the bank’s money back instead of asking the bank to get your money back.
    • For some services you can change your address to a California address and all of a sudden the easy “Cancel online” button will magically appear. California has laws requiring online cancellation for online subscriptions. I had to do this to get a newspaper cancelled without a phone call/email.
    • Privacy.com is great for creating “virtual” credit/debit cards. When I start a subscription I’m not sure I’ll keep (especially free trials), I’ll use a Privacy card with a $1 limit or exactly enough to pay a single month. Then, when they try to charge my card it automatically declines and they usually cancel the subscription for me. You can even change your card from your real credit/debit card to a Privacy card.
    • If you did pay with a credit card and have made a reasonable attempt to cancel, just file the chargeback/dispute with your credit card company. I’ve spent too much time dealing with lousy customer support that’s designed to waste your time. Shady companies suck and they have to pay a fee when they get a dispute. Usually they deserve it.

Email customer service and say you want to cancel your subscription. Save this email as evidence and a paper trail. If they don’t cancel it, contact your bank and dispute the charges as fraudulent. Or, you can remove the card from the subscription service.

If all else fails, report the card as lost or stolen. The bank will send you a new one. They won’t have access to your new card and can no longer charge your subscription.
