Dale should have been the main character of King Of The Hill, not Hank

r/

I’m not saying that Hank should have been removed from the tv show entirely, but I find Dale to be a much more entertaining and interesting character. Yes, I know that Hank isn’t supposed to be the comedic relief character, but the way he’s written puts him more as the stick in the mud than the voice of reason of the show. Dale must go on all sorts of whacky/entertaining adventures that we’re missing out on, but no, we gotta follow the life of an assistant manager at Strickland Propane and a substitute teacher. I think the writers could still have written a lot of the same episodes, just show Dale’s perspective more than Hank’s.

The show would not have appealed to as broad an audience as Dale is a paranoid conspiracy theorist who doesn’t trust anyone. He is obsessed with guns and cigarettes and hates the government.

Dale is interesting and entertaining because he’s contrast. He gets quite a bit of focus throughout the series nevertheless, but the show’s premise wasn’t to watch the most absurd character do absurd character stuff….it was to have a grounded center for interesting and entertaining characters to be featured around. It would not have had the longevity or success that it had if they’d focused on Dale.
