Have you ever met someone who’s voice just immensely relaxes you? This may sound crazy, but I was just on an IT call and the gentleman’s voice who helped me literally made me feel like I popped a low dose xanax or spent an hour on nitrous. It made me think back to a time 20+ years ago where my high school science teacher’s voice did the same thing to me—I was both zenned out and incredibly focused in her class because of her voice. I remember thinking how odd it was to me back then. Nowadays, I know ASMR has become a known, bigger thing in the last decade+, but the ones I stumble across aren’t voice related, but more soothing sounds and repetitions.
Does this ever happen to you? Is this a specific type of ASMR? Any idea what it is about some voices that are just soooo peaceful? Legitimately, I feel like I’m on something!

Yes, my yoga teacher. I love her voice. I can hear it in my head.
That feeling when you hear a voice and suddenly everything just… calms down, and it’s like a warm hug for your brain, isn’t it something we’re all familiar with, and, honestly, I could listen to it all day.
There are millions of people like me who fall asleep to Peter Thomas, narrator of Forensic Files. Literally within one minute of hearing his voice, I am sound asleep. If Forensic Files comes on TV during the daytime I have to fight off the immediate urge to fall asleep. The other voice I find super relaxing is Seth Andrews of the podcast “The Thinking Atheist”. His voice is just like butter. When I’m having a lot of anxiety, I put on one of his episodes and I calm down almost immediately. I would love to understand the psychology behind why certain voices are able to have such a calming effect on my brain and why some voices irritate me to no end.
Thats ASMR
Had a math teacher who would put me right to sleep. He was kind in dealing with it (take a walk to the board and do a problem) and I kind of think he knew it was related to his voice, not just rude or tired students.
