When I was very young, my younger brother accidentally wanted to rent Silence of the Lambs. My mom had never heard of it either, so she approved it. Turns out the video we came home with was a porno
My parents took me to see Boyz n the Hood when I was 13. Aside from the violence it had a few sex scenes that made me so uncomfortable. I honestly don’t think they had any clue what the movie was about. LOL
Stephen Kings “It”
I don’t know how I was able to see it at like age 10, but I personally believe it caused me some psychological damage well into my teens.
My grandparents were some pretty interesting free spirits to say the least so when I was a little kid I used to go to their house and play with my hot wheels and legos in the middle of the living room while they watched porn on the tv. I never really paid much attention to it cause I was always too into my toys, ya know?
“American Pie” from my Dad when I was 8 and “The Poughkeepsie Tapes” through unmonitored internet access at age 12.
Edit: Forgot about “Faces of Death”. I walked in on my Mom watching it at age 6, and I got interested, and she sadly let me watch the movie with her. Boy, did that lead to Harm OCD.
Girl, Interrupted. I was around 9-10 years old at the time, and I still can’t handle that movie now at 33. There are only a few movies that I would never want to watch again, but that one is at the top of the list. I’ve never been left with such an ugly and unbearable feeling from a movie, and I’m a horror fan.
One of my earliest memories is of my mum and dad in a shouting match because dad showed me and my sister The Thing when we were young. But then my mom went and showed us Alien like it was nothing
I’m still not sure what it was. It was the early 90s my dad rented a horror sci fi type movie. It was robocop like and I remember in the movie there was an ad for human organs, and a threat of organ repossession. My mom made my dad return it.
IT. Obviously not the scariest of movies, but my parents never allowed me to watch any horror movies until I was around 13. I watched IT when I was 7 or 8 with some older cousins. Surprisingly, I didn’t develop a phobia of clowns, but I did develop phobias for things that I would see every day like sewers and shower drains. I was convinced that at any given moment something could come out of a shower drain and take me down into it.. this is when I stopped taking baths lol I would face the shower head/drain at all times while showering and open my shower curtains while using the restroom to make sure nothing was in there.
Apparently my dad raised me on horror movies while I was a baby. He would feed me in the middle of the night and watch horror movies on TV. I don’t remember this but I do remember him letting me and my little brother watch 28 days later when I was 11 and he was 9. My brother had nightmares for weeks afterwards. I was totally fine though, presumably from being desensitised as a baby.
I just assumed that it was just a normal “underwater” movie with special effects as a kid. I didn’t realize until I was in my 30s how absolutely insane and dangerous it was to shoot that movie in a massive underwater tank kept in darkness to simulate the ocean floor. The production did a boatload of mental and emotional damage to the cast and crew and Ed Harris was nearly killed.
There is no way a film could ever be shot practically like that today.
Blair Witch Project at like 6 or 7! And we lived in the woods. I was terrified to be outside by myself at night for years. I still get a little iffy when I’m outside alone at night.
I wouldnt really say that I was too young, I just didn’t care for it anyways and certainly seen worse on my own, but my parents made a big deal about my sister not being able to watch rocky horror show until she was old enough but when she did finally watch it I guess they just didn’t care about me cause I was just chilling in the next room in plain view looking over occousinally while being 3 years younger
I was 6 when I saw Saving Private Ryan. I had zero concept of life, death, or how movies were made, I only took what I saw at face value. I asked my dad “dad, are they really killing these people to make a movie?” to which he replied “we dont ask stupid fucking questions around here”. Having a 7 year old daughter now, I understand my dad lol but I would still never say something like that to her.
the Exorcist. My dad in his infinite wisdom turned it on and watched it with me, said it was a great movie. It is a great movie, but not for a Catholic school 4th grade girl. I didn’t sleep for a week.
on my own, watched Apocalypse Now when I was 16. Again, great movie, but the end was so upsetting.
I’m Brazilian, and it’s unfortunately common for children to be exposed to inappropriate content. As for the traumatic experience: I was little when I watched The Mighty. At that point, I thought all stories were feel-good with a happy ending, so I was gutted and cried a lot.
Passion of the Christ. Holy cow that movie was way too intense as a 13 year old. I was haunted by it. My aunt even wanted to take her children who were no older than SEVEN to see it because her church told her to and I had to tell her not to. She only believed me after she went with her husband without the kids.
Night of the Living Dead. I was 5. Strangely enough, nearly 60 years later I still love horror movies. Especially zombie ones! Hubby says I’m very twisted. He’s into RomComs

I was getting ready to lose my last few baby teeth around 10 years old when Darkness Falls came out.

The movie has some questionable consent which I didn’t understand at the time. But the thing that definitely hit me too young is the boobs
Howard The Duck scared the bejesus out of me at four. Babysitter’s kid wanted to watch it – he was the same age as I was.
