Anti Aging, the Men’s Skincare Edit please

r/

This is probably an odd question to ask since this is my first time. I normally don’t talk about skincare lmao. Anyways moving forward, I have noticed that men’s anti-aging products are never really advertised much Everywhere I look its the same rhetoric of how men just use a 3 in one shampoo for literally everything. But i need something a little more sophisticated than that.

I have a little routine down already,

  1. cleanser
  2. retinol
  3. moisturiser

But i need something that targets the wrinkles I’m starting to develop (deepening smile lines and whatnot), but some formulas that are tailored for men’s skin. I’m trying to do self care right, help a bro out.

Nivea Men Hyaluron anti-age cream. I use it since im 13 every single day and it really pays off. I’m 35 and get guessed <30 always.

The secret is to moist your face everyday with cream: your skin is like leather and once it gets dry its cracks. So that’s important. Even more important, the most important: this cream contains SPF15 (sun protection). Really one thing makes your skin look old: sun (yeah okay and smoking). So protect against sun, even in autumn, even in winter, even when you think there is no sun. UV is always there.

For so long my secrets, good luck!

There really isn’t a gender difference between the products. Retinol is retinol, moisturizer is moisturizer, etc. Retinol seems to be the gold standard for OTC products. Also, wear sunscreen daily regardless of the weather.

Sleep, diet, and exercise also play a big part. Make sure you have those fine tuned as well.

    I need to do this.

Sunscreen might top the chart of importance. You can’t die from being too or too little moisturized. But skin cancer will kill you.

And it’s not an odd question. While “anti aging” is a marketing gag, skin health is important. No reason to be signal embarrassment with the lmao, we here for you.

Besides sunscreen it’s up to all of us to picking something that works for them. All our skins are different and face different elements. You should experiment and find what works for you.

Biggest anti-ager is none of these. It’s preventing sun-damage.

    Get moisturizers with SPF protection.

Then it’s also eating healthy and staying active.

And then it’s things like Retinol and cleansers.

    I have a feeling it’s entirely genetics and smoking/drinking.

I look the youngest of all my friends by far. cigarettes, very little alcohol. But also probably a lot of genetics… My dad looks much younger than he is as well.

I’ve never used any skin care products

And I’m out in the sun every day

    Easy peasy bro. Here’s mine:

    AM:

    1. Cereve foaming cleanser (because I have combination skin, green marketing)
    2. ISNTREE green tea toner
    3. Cereve daily moisurizing lotion (blue marketing)
    4. Altruist face fluid spf 50

    PM:

    1. Cereve foaming cleanser
    2. Altreeno cream 0.05% (tretinoin)
    3. Cereve skin renewing night cream (purple marketing)

Go to a dermitologist and tell them you want a tretinoin prescription to address fine lines and wrinkles. Altreeno is a really great product and goes on easily, and that’s what she recommended for me. You’ll start small with 0.05% and can gradually go up to 0.1%, but you’ll need to ease into it since it’s a retinoid. Retinoids are different than retinols, which you can get over the counter. They are stronger and have more clinical trials done for addressing fine lines and wrinkles, and you need a prescription to get them.

Meh, seems like something men grow out of.

Now protection from cancers sure, but anti-aging? Sounds like something a teen/young 20s would say.

I’d say ride it out. Trying to slow down or prevent things is a pointless, EXPENSIVE, uphill climb, because it will reach you no matter what. Learn to love yourself.

Moisturize, but don’t have some in depth regimen. You’re not in a mid-life crisis.

Helping bro out isn’t helping your skin, it’s lifting you up to see who you really are under the wrinkles. Helping bro out is having him appreciate what’s underneath the smile.

It’s inevitable that you’ll grow out of it. The sooner you do, the better.

    Very simple:

    • wash with some délicate or gentle face wash in the morning

    • slap on some moisturiser with an SPF filter or just straight factor 50 sun cream in summer

    That’s about it

Other than cleanser, retinol (most science based to help restore with retinol being the over the counter option), and moisturizer the other products you find are just expensive ways to clean your face. If I remember right, vitamin C serum is just expensive and not helpful.

You also want to prevent damage. So sunscreen and limiting sun exposure are great ways to prevent damage.

Also diet and hydration are up there as well. You’ll want to be hydrated across the board for function.

Also treat your skin like an organ. Wash it often but don’t strip its ability to help itself with harsh chemicals. And keep it healthy.

I’m 43 and occasionally get guessed to be in my late 20s.

Seriously? Go to bed at a decent hour, stay out of the sun, and eat clean.

Aside that, I use nivea every other day and apply sunscreen whenever I’m outside.

Sorry but women have been duped by the so called beauty industry for a very long time. There is no reason for men to also fall for this.

You can’t stop aging. All you can do is have a healthy diet, avoid the sun and have luck with your genetics. Embrace it.

You need to work on your skin from the inside, most the stuff you put on your skin isn’t really being absorbed. Start taking collagen peptides. I get a big container a costco and take it daily. It will take about 3 months before you notice. I mix mine with my creatine and fiber. Also increase your omega3 intake from food, this will help your own natural collagen production. I have been taking it a little over 6 months, I didn’t have any dry skin over the winter, not even my elbows. I lost a lot of weight in that time period and my skin is less saggy now even.

Consider hot yoga. Good for your whole body (skin included).

Anecdotal and a matter of personal perspective, but I’m 41 now and the “aging” i see develop on my face has only made me handsomer. My wife says so too.

I have two or three white hairs in the goatee part of my otherwise short trimmed beard that I also think looks awesome and adds character.

Embracing aging is much cheaper and healthier than worrying about it.

My hands are a different story. I moisturize those bad boys daily because they work hard and get very dry. Again it’s not because of how they look, it’s just about how they feel.

Make sure your sleep is good, try your best to minimize stress, eat mostly real food, minimize alcohol and drink water and exercise,  This stuff is the cake, everything else the icing. It’s amazing how some people are missing the major stuff.

Moisturizer and use body wash and cleansers that moisturize, sun glasses !! one of the first wrinkles are eye wrinkles from squinting and frowning.. avoid direct sun like the plague ! never tan or sit in the sun ! eat lots of fruits and vegetables even as smoothies – however you can get them in.. drink lots of water and fluids, don’t drink pure liquor it’s very toxic and dehydrating, try to excuse regularly, don’t bite your nails and get a mouthguard for night to preserve you’re teeth.. practice good oral hygiene, don’t slouch or keep your head down too much it will cause neck wrinkles one of the first wrinkles to appear – remember to moisturize the front and back of your neck ! I do all these things and get many compliments but still my own worst enemy, try to be well dressed and keep your hair shorter to me it makes a guy look much younger and put together.. utilize none/limited invasive dermatologist treatments like lasers, skin peels, facials if you can afford it, I also use biore pads twice a week for blackheads.. just a few of my suggestions

Bulldog original moisturiser is my go to after showering in the morning and before bed.

The most important thing in terms of actually reducing how fast you’re going to visually age is daily sunscreen, particularly on the face. But – anywhere that gets sun exposure still gets damage from the sun, and if you’re looking to really minimize signs of aging – remember other areas, especially those regularly exposed like the neck + hands. (Unfortunately if you’re only starting this now, you’re a little late – but not continuing to make it worse is important).

Retinol should be at night not the morning, keep that in mind.

Sunscreen. I know a guy who’s 71 and thought he was at least a decade younger and his “secret” was just using sunscreen every day.

  25. spiderml Avatar

Personally I find toner to be useful for my skin. I use the CeraVe one currently and find it works well to hydrate my combo skin. Otherwise spf every morning is the next big one, on top of what you’re mentioning. I don’t find eye cream too useful but it feels like a no regret thing to me right now, maybe I just haven’t found the right one.

  26. ruralmonalisa Avatar

You literally only need a gentle cleanser, and SPF followed by moisturizer in the day and gentle cleanser, followed by retinol at night
If it’s a strong retinol like trentanoin use three times a week. Technically you’re supposed to build up to using every day, but I don’t really think that is necessary if you are outdoorsy because the chemical burns will be brutal.

Also, when it comes to SPF, I highly recommend that whether you’re black or white, you’re buying sunscreen lotion and just putting that all over your body like when you go out during the day, I buy my boyfriend the Hawaiian tropic sunscreen lotion at 50 SPF because he has a job where he works outside (hes white) I use that as well (I’m black) You typically need at least 30 SPF for your face so I personally use 70. My boyfriend uses the 50 from the Hawaiian tropic.

  27. BendingDoor Avatar

Mine’s a variation on what was recommended by The Ordinary. SPF is a must.

  28. coolaznkenny Avatar

day time – face wash – lotion – sunscreen with 50 spf.

night time – face wash – lotion – tretinoin

  29. Knoppie22 Avatar

    Look for water based moisturizers.

I’m using a Nivea one. Small glass container that is soft on the skin.

  30. debunk101 Avatar

Use toner for face wash at the end of a day. Then some moisturiser. Collagen masks once a week. If you don’t you’d be needing serums in your late 40s
