Is it just me, or do you also see dads in their 30s/40s wearing baseball caps everywhere?
Is this part of your fashion? Is this because your hairline is receding?
Curious to know your thoughts.

I’ve never worn a ball cap outside of a uniform.
Really just need to keep the sun out of my eyes, ya know?
Yes. Is it because I’m losing my hair? Yes. Am I losing my hair because of it? Also yes
I’m not a hat guy, but if I were to wear one, it would be to keep the sun out of my face.
It’s because the sun is in my damn eyes and I’ll look ridiculous in a floppy brimmed hat or cowboy hat.
Yes, to avoid burning in the sun.
Owner of a receding hairline here. No hats. I get instant hat hair for the rest of the day. Plus I have a weird head shape for them? Glad all you hat enjoyers are enjoying your hats, though.
I wear one, going bald, but I also shave my head
I do because it’s sunny where I live. I do, however, know guys who wear them all the time regardless of weather or time of day because of hair issues.
I know a guy with a receding hairline who wears hats for it
I wear them because I like the style, but also because I live in a windy city and I have fine hair, and the wind can make it blow all over
I genuinely only started suiting them when I was about 38 😂
Been wearing more baseball caps since I moved to the Southwest. My hairline’s fine, just need something to keep the sun out of my eyes.
Not normally, largely because I’ve always had a giant melon and couldn’t regularly find hats when I was younger, so never got in the habit.
Thanks to Mammoth I have a couple now that get worn on occasion.
It keeps the sun out of my eyes and allows me to kill yellowjackets or other flying pests.
I wear baseball caps sometimes. Sometimes because I haven’t showered yet that day and my hair is messed up. Sometimes because I want to keep the sun out of my eyes. And sometimes because I’m thinning in the back and can get sunburns if I don’t…
I have long hair that I don’t style daily. So I just wear hats. I work a dress code lax job that I can wear a hat daily.
I am trying to grow out my hair and it is at that point where it’s not long enough to pull up and it’s not short enough to style.
Just long enough to get in my eyes and mouth.
No. I have other hats, like fedoras or panamas.
Just for the sun out or taking the boy to the park
Receding Hairlines. I don’t judge, because I would hate to have that issue.
I always wear a hat, including one of several baseball caps. I cut my hair close and have fair skin. My dermatologist wants me to wear a hat in the sun.
47 here and yes, pretty regularly usually cuz I’m working outside on my house
I do it because either I don’t feel like styling my hair, or it looks good with my outfit, or both
Run in one, work out in one, mow the yard in one. Casually go out in one so yes. No hat for nicer night outs and more formal stuff but other than that probably wearing a ball cap.
I ain’t got time to fix my hair every day. Hat it is
Hated hats until I started receding at 28. Daily wearer since then
If it’s sunny out, I’ll wear a hat a sunglasses to protect my eyes. If my hair is messy and I have a Teams meeting in the morning, the hat is going on.
I have tonnes of hair, I just don’t feel like grooming it, so I put a hat on
All the time. Sun protection, didn’t wash my hair, and I just like them. And I have a full head of hair, so it’s not that.
>Is this part of your fashion? Is this because your hairline is receding?
There are numerous reasons to wear a ball cap, including but not limited to.
Hiding a receding hairline.
To help keep rain off of your glasses.
Fondness for head-wear.
To show support for basically any sports team, franchise, brand, location, etc.
To help keep the sun and/or sweat out of your eyes.
To hide your unwashed or messy hair.
To prevent sunburn on bald heads.
Yes, I wear ball caps a lot. I think they look good on me and I’m bald so they keep my scalp from getting burned.
It’s just easier. The have full head of hair.
Anytime my hair is not styled and I have to go out in public I do. Mostly to the gym.
Just en route to the store to shield my house goblin eyes
I do so i don’t have to brush my hair and also to keep the sun out of my eyes when outside.
Yes I wear ball caps in the summer and toques in the winter. Nothing to do with hair or lack there of.
Yes, have a couple hundred of them actually. Usually for sun and because I don’t shower every morning unless I’m working
Sure do and bandanas.
I used to wear them to keep the sun out of my eyes, now I wear them to keep the sun outta my eyes and for my receding hair line. 😂🤣
I wear bandannas mainly to catch sweat while I’m outside working.
I wear flexfit trucker hats.
Don’t know why. Not really “fashion” as I don’t wear it for looks, it’s just a comfort thing.
Forwards for the sun and to give me a sense of protection from overstimulation.
Backwards when I’m doing anything that I need full visual access for, and the equivalent of putting sunglasses on my head.
Also I hate sunglasses, very uncomfortable to me.
But yeah, I wear a hat 24/7
M69 with great hairline. Never wear a cap.
I never really thought about why I wear them. I have a few of them, and I just got used to wearing one every time I go outside! It’s nice because it keeps the sun out of my eyes, keeps my head warm in winter, and I like how it looks.
I’m gonna guess it was because I grew up wearing them
Yes, because I have sensitive eyes, also pro tip, the underside of the brim needs to be dark or else it makes the glare worse. Test it yourself, go out in the bright sun, put on a hat with a light brim, now switch to a dark brim and feel your eyes relax.
I have been wearing fitted MLB hats for 22 years and I have a full head of hair.
No receding hairline line yet, I just wear them to keep the sun out of my eyes and so I don’t have to do anything with my hair that day
Help keep the sun out of my face, sweat off my face, and it looks cool or I think it does. Not all of us are going bald I have some thick hair. I work construction so it’s either a ball cap or hard hat
I wear a hat when im having a bad day. Which is usually everyday when it’s been too long since a haircut
Occasionally? Maybe a couple days out of the month. I usually only wear a hat if I’m overdue for a haircut and I am not in the mood to do anything with my hair that day
I was sitting having supper in a taqueria the other night and it seemed like every man in the place had on a baseball cap, and above the visor were where everyone’s sunglasses were kept. Somehow I missed the memo and wore nothing like that that day, but I can happily say that I have had my baseball cap wearing days, and while it suited me well at the time it certainly is well behind me now.
Oh, as for the hairline? It’s been receding since my twenties. As for hats? I like to wear them and I wear hats every day, just not baseball caps. For me it’s a matter of style, not fashion. C
I lost my hair and began shaving my head. I got a sunburn on that shaved head once, and now if it’s fully overcast or particularly sunny, a baseball cap goes on.
Oh yeah. Everywhere. Since I was like 10. I don’t even know why anymore
Baseball cap on the golf course or in the car, cowboy hat in the truck and everywhere else. I’m bald and lost my mentor to skin cancer. I don’t want to risk it if I can help prevent it.
Mostly to avoid getting sunburnt on my head when I drive the convertible. Sometimes because a really nice hat and shoes paired with a nice watch are pretty much the only accessories men can wear. I like that it adds a bit of style to whatever I’m wearing.
They were on trend in our youth and we still enjoy the look now. Go look at a video of Gen x youth and peep the proliferation of one size fits all caps
I don’t feel like doing my hair sometimes?
If I am not at work, I’m probably wearing a hat. All of mine have little gay flags on them so it’s my way if signaling to the other guys that I’m cool.
Yup! But I’ve been making it fun. I buy up horror themed hats. I love it. I want to get more but there isn’t a huge market for horror themed hats
Wait… this is a sad thing…. Been wearing hats since i was 14
All the time. I starting wearing them full-time when I was done with school. I feel naked without one. Hat and glasses get put on before I leave my bedroom.
Yes. Maybe because I’m in the military and it’s ingrained in me to wear a hat outdoors but there’s so many reasons. Didn’t feel like combing hair, blocks sun from my dome so less chance of skin cancer, sun not in my eyes, matches what I’m wearing, going to a ball game and showing support for my team. And lastly, I’m married, I don’t dress to impress anymore
I’ve just always hated combing/styling my hair. I’ve worn a baseball cap for a majority of my life. The only time I’m not wearing a hat is at work (but i even wear one at work at times. I WFH)) or at dress up occasions.
Usually only when I golf. Sometimes like hiking or at a game.
I used to never wear a hat because I think I look better without a hat (full head of hair). But my mother passed away from skin cancer. I always wore sunscreen, but now a hat and sunglasses as well. My dermatologist told me that form of skin cancer is rare and isn’t linked to a specific cause, but these steps will reduce overall risk still and are still good steps, especially as a fair-skinned person (Irish ancestry).
I wear them all the time. Not because I’m trying to hide that I am bald (or when I was going bald), but because they keep my head from getting a sunburn and keep my head warmer in cold weather.
That and I grew up wearing baseball caps. Don’t see a reason not to now.
Would love to wear a fedora, but like every American man after 1962, I would look like a goof if I tried.
Sometimes. To either block the sun when driving or working in the yard. Or to keep my hair back when i don’t style it for the day. Or rain.
I have worn new era fitted hats since I was 16. I am now 36. This is just what is comfortable for me. I am a teacher, and comb my hair every day for school. But any other day I am not attending a wedding or some other formal event, I am wearing a hat.
I especially like the “dome” part, as I can flip my sunglasses up under that part of my hat and still comfortably wear my hat.
When I need protection from the sun. Golf, lawn work, attending outdoor sporting events, etc. Never indoors.
I do when I’m doing yard work, or if I need try be in public and it’s been too long since I’ve had a haircut and don’t feel like messing with it. Not bald, full head of hair.
I have hair. Sometimes I don’t want to go thru the hair routine.
Since my hair is thining up top I’ve been keeping it short (a #3 every month) and noticed it gets a little roasted so I’ve been wearing hats. Also since its short so don’t have to worry about getting “hat hair” so might as well wear it more.
😆
I have longer hair, sometimes a cap helps keep it out of my eyes, especially when it’s windy or hot/humid.
I don’t wear them out to eat or anything, as I know that’s perceived as rude, but if you’re out and about and it makes you comfortable, why not?
Sometimes. Why? Sometimes because of the sun. But also because I think I look good in them. My fiancé agrees.
I’ve been told it makes me look more approachable and nice.
I am lucky to not be losing hair but I’ve worn a baseball cap semi regularly since I was a kid (41M).
Especially when attending baseball games – but just generally, I’ll wear a baseball hat after work and on weekends fairly regularly if I’m dressed casually.
I feel weird if I don’t wear a hat
Yes, because I’m the starting shortstop for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
No cause it’d smush this luscious doo
Yeah, but I’m bald
Yes. I’ve just always worn a hat since I was younger. It’s not really a fashion thing and I have a full head of hair. It’s just normal, I suppose.
2 skin cancers removed so far
Yes, for multiple reasons.
I used to wear standard caps but switched it up for scally caps. Boston Scally are so unbelievably comfortable.
Because i have no hair and it keeps my head warm
I started wearing them when I grew my hair longer, it’s honestly easier to deal with than it falling in my face while working, or getting grease and oil into it.
I’ve trimmed the hair, but I still like wearing a ball cap, especially working outside! I can’t leave without one now!
All the time. It’s like a comfort blanket lol
Wife likes me in hats. Full head of hair. Shruggie. 37m
I have scars from skin cancers being cut out of my arms, I’m trying to avoid scars like those on my face.
I worked in food service (mostly restaurant boh/pizza) so I got used to wearing hats.
I don’t wear them every day now, but when I go outside in a sunny day I usually put one on to block the light a hit
I have a pretty bad receding hairline and buzz my head. That sun is my heads number 1 enemy.
Only for sun while boating I’m 40 have great hair I’d like to keep it like that lol.😂
Every day of my life since I was a kid. Ball caps or cowboy hats. I’m a farmer, and if you don’t wear a hat in this business you definitely stand out.
I’ve been wearing ball caps since I was about 15 years old
I wear hats when I want to. Not all the time. Not always a baseball cap.
Still have a full head of hair, and have even grown it out to a flowing mane. But hats are convenient. They block the sun. They can look cool. Sometimes I don’t want to give a fuck about my hair.
Two reasons, I’m balding and sunburn on a scalp is no fun. I went camping once and learned my lesson. Second is keeping the sun out of my eyes.
I’m too lazy to style my hair a lot of the time and toss a ball cap on
I’ve been shaving my head for almost 20 years now. I wear a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes and to prevent sunburn on my head.
I made the mistake one summer to not wear a hat during a concert outing, and my skull burned for several weeks after. Never again.
I’m bald. Yes. Always.
I wear them most of the time. Mainly because I shave my head and bump it a lot at work.
I’ve also had skin cancer so I try to stay covered as much as possible.
Im in my 50s. I wear a baseball cap very often. Full head of hair, but I live in Texas, and the sun is bright. I also am an outdoors person, so there’s that.
Old man across the road wears one. He is 83.
Keeps my scalp from burning man, ain’t got no hair
Probably because it’s what we grew up wearing. Been wearing a ball cap since high school.
Can’t speak for others, but laziness is my reason. Fixing my hair is a waste of time. Same reason I wear glasses and not contacts 🤣🤣🤣
I’ve been wearing hats regularly since I was a teen in the 90’s.
Partly because I didn’t want to do my hair in the morning, partly style.
No hats for me
I’m 46 and regularly rock a black fitted hat, yes
I’ve just always worn a hat…
Well personally, I don’t like skin cancer and am I’m in my 40’s not my 80s so I can’t wear bucket hats or scally caps.
My doctor recommended I wear a hat when outside for a while, so I do. I’m not balding and wouldn’t give a shit if I was (I usually buzz my hair anyway)
I’ve had a backwards cap on for 30+ years. Never really thought about why
Yes, backwards when I wanna try to feel younger.
I wear baseball caps. I don’t have fair skin, but I am vain and want to keep my skin looking nice into my old age. So, caps it is, for sun protection.
I’d like to bring back real hats – and usually wear a Panama hat at the beach. But, in real life there’s nowhere to put your hat down these days. I can’t very well wear a fedora to a restaurant and just stick it on the table while I eat.
Personally, I do not like wearing hats of any kind. I still do in certain situations (cold weather, or spending a decent chunk of the day in the sun)
I do have a receding hairline, and I’m not self conscious about it. I’m a man in my mid 30s, this is just what happens to a lot of us. I keep my hair very short, and will just shave my head more often when it creeps back further.
I wear them 12+ hours a day as a hard hat liner.
Single father with two young kids. They don’t let me shower every day. The hat hides the greasy hair.
Everyday at work, never on non work days.
Every day. I shave my head bald so it helps protect my scalp from the sun during this time of the year.
Ive worn hats since I was a child playing t ball. I probably have about 45 hats I’ve worn throughout the years.
Yes I do, and the only time I don’t have one on is when showering or sleeping.
I hate hats
I have to wear a hat for work so then just throw a cap on after because my hair is a mess
Been wearing em since I was a kid, will wear them till I die. I also have a Tilley and some wide brims I will wear if I know I’m traveling or will be outdoors, but generally a baseball cap is just so easy.
I dont even own one.
Almost 60. I don’t do hats
I’m bald. Skin cancer sucks.
