Say I backtrack on a train of thought and go “well, you wouldn’t want to hear it ” and they ask me to elaborate. If they seem genuinely interested and discuss said train of thought seriously and intellectually (no matter how random or intrusive-thoughtsy it looks), I’ve just found someone I can be myself around.
Being able to laugh at themselves. Met this guy who tripped and face-planted in front of me at a party, then got up and said ‘Well, I was gonna try to impress you, but I guess I’ll just sweep you off your feet another time.’ We’ve been together 3 years now.
My mam used to vet my boyfriends based on how much the dogs liked them and how good they were to the dogs. The one who ended up my husband carried my dog for 3 miles because he pretended to hurt his paw on a walk.

If, without warning, you toss a handful of pebbles behind her and she instantly turns to scan for threats, her reflexes are finely tuned. Green flag.

My now fiancé would drive 40 minutes across town to see me twice a week. I would do the same. He always tried to match the level of effort I was putting into the relationship and we thrive together. I’ve never had a partner like that.
displays a dislike of intrusion in private settings, say your out for a meal and you can tell this person is fixed on you and engaging with you in a personal and meaningful way. This means to me at least they look for a solid relationship and are uninterested with others whilst they are engaged with you. don’t be too nice to strangers imo. this may also mean they can enjoy quality time with you.
Someone who is genuinely scared of doing wrong to someone else. It’s not that they’re scared of the ‘consequences’, but they’re scared of doing wrong without even thinking about what the consequences might be. They just shudder away from even the tiniest thought of being mean or wrong to others because of their conscience that would haunt them if they did someone wrong. That’s the hugest green flag that that person is genuinely kind at heart.
