Obama did it with due process over 8 years, Trump is rounding people without due process to ship them to el salvador.

    What a (removed) question.

Obama didn’t pick people off the streets or at colleges and disappear them to fucking El Salvador.

Some folks ARE mad about Obama era deportations. Many more folks are mad about the way Trump is deporting people. He is doing it extrajudicially.

A simple google search would have given you so much information on this but you decided to ask Reddit and “please don’t attack me I am just uneducated on this”?

I think most just don’t trust Trump from the way he has spoken about immigrants and foreigners forever.

And the way he’s going about it now (El Salvador prisons?)

Deportation, in and of itself, has been a relatively mundane thing forever.

This little thing called due process.

There were fundamental differences (due process for detainees, not kidnapping green card holders and arbitrarily “revoking” their green cards because they said things you don’t like), but also, we were mad about that too lmao. There’s a reason people called Obama the “Deporter In Chief” back in the day.

I’m mad because he’s deporting legal visa-holding doctors and academics who are just vocally sharing anti-Russian or anti-Israel opinions.

Trump ran on deporting “illegal immigrants” not revoking visas for the best and brightest and then flying them all over the world because they practiced free speech.

There are so many levels of fucked up here, no one should be okay with this.

This is a stupid question because when you just pick people off the streets at random it’s a gestapo. Ever learned about WWII? Well, that’s how fascism works. Wake up!

This is a ridiculous, contrarian question.

Because they’re stripping people of due process. We’re told over and over and over about how all these people we’re sending to torture prisons in El Salvador are bad gang members. How do we know that if they aren’t given due process? Where is the proof? Why do they not get thier day it court if they’re so sure?

We’re supposed to be a country that cares about human rights and our Constitution and they’re trampling it left and right to get rid of them without even making sure they’re criminals.

Because, as far as I know, Obama and Biden didn’t kidnap people in broad daylight and fly them to foreign prisons without due process. Likely (and almost certainly) sweeping up innocent people in the process. It is otherworldly levels of fucked.

  13. Couch_Captain75 Avatar

Due process is a significant portion of it. All people have a right to due process. Otherwise anyone in this Reddit can be shipped out of the country just bc someone doesn’t like our posts and called an illegal. There’s literally nothing stopping it without due process.

The other key element is that there was significant bipartisan legislation in place to help with immigration reform. It wouldn’t have solved it, but it would have helped. And Trump nuked it simply so he could do what he’s doing now. He tanked good legislation, that republicans supported, purely to campaign on it, and cause people harm.

Obama did it differently and never threatened to deport anyone critical of him or shut down the press.

  15. PeasantPenguin Avatar

I’m not a fan of either’s mass deportations. At the very least, Obama went thru due process though.

P.S. I meant to add this for you OP.

Just be lucky that none of us downvoted your questions yet.

Because Trump is doing it without fair legal trials. There’s people being deported to countries they’re not even from because of a tattoo

In the US, we have “due process”. It simply means that EVERYONE is supposed to get their day in court, the right to proper representation in legal matters, etc.

This is written in our 14th amendment. Yes, this includes ALL folks inside our borders including illegal immigrants.

Obama did deport tons of illegal immigrants. They all got their due process.

What Donald Trump did: invoke a law called the aliens enemies act. Why is this important? It allows the government to classify an entire group as a danger to national security and waive their rights. So what Trump did is state that Venezuelan gangs are agents of the Venezuelan government that are INVADING the U.S., therefore he is allowed to do as he pleases to Venezuelan immigrants. This law has been used 3 times before: the war of 1812 against British nationals, world war 1 against Germans, world war 2 against Japanese, many of whom were citizens themselves.

Trump is making extreme liberal usage of a law intended to strip your rights that is normally meant for actual wartime, and he is rounding up brown people and shipping them off to South American gulags, without due process. Imagine you’re walking down the street, got some tattoos, look a little rough, and ICE detains you.

Then in days you’re on a plane to El Salvador. No court case. No one looking over evidence of whether you actually are affiliated with the gangs, no lawyer to protect you, no contact with your family. Just gone. Disappeared.
