It blows my mind how many people talk about parenting without even knowing the basic styles from developmental psychology. Gentle parenting is not permissive parenting. Gentle parenting is actually a form of authoritative parenting, high expectations and high support.
What people are really mad about is authoritarian parenting, the “because I said so” control and punishment type.
Permissive parenting, on the other hand, is what happens when the parent checks out, distant, avoidant, “you can do whatever you want” with no structure. It’s not gentle, it’s absent.
If you think gentle parenting = permissive parenting, you’re not just wrong. You’re ridiculously wrong. Like “flunking basic human development 101” wrong.
If you think gentle parent actually is synonymous with permissive parenting, cite a source that supports your claim!
