wrestlers maintaining character in interviews and outside of shows is so lame.

I’m a huge wrestling fan, but I hate the whole concept of kayfabe and “protecting the business”. It really makes it hard for me to reccomend wrestling to others. Why the fuck are you maintaining character on the red carpet, interviews, etc. It’s basically a stage play, and I love it. I try so hard to get people into wrestling, but they are always hung up on this aspect. What’s even stupider is that people believe some of this stuff. I was watching survivor series 2023, and when the show went off the air, CM punk came out, and off camera they made seth rollins act like he was uncontrollably mad and had berserker rage. And people believed it. Everyone knows it’s scripted, why don’t they embrace it, and have behind the scenes videos, rehersals and everything. I always loved the production values, and want them to pull back the curtain. I don’t know why so many people are mad about “kayfabe is dead” or “muh exposing the business”. It’s just a natural progression of wrestling, and how you get more fans of the product.

You just said you’re a huge wrestling fan and you think something other than that is lame

I’m a huge wrestling fan and I’m torn by the whole idea. On one hand, it’s great and awesome to hear about what really goes into wrestling. Maven, a wrestler from 2001-2005 made a Youtube channel talking about his experiences in the business and what is required of you to wrestle.

On the other hand, I love the roleplay and acting type aspects of the thing. Undertaker was one of the best at his craft especially in interviews and related material. He didn’t reveal who he was as a person until he was ready and that kind of commitment to a character or an idea was magical to me as a kid and in some way still resonates with me as an adult. Now sure, I obviously don’t believe any of this is actually real or that they’re mad or whatever. But art immetates life and they’re acting on what could be a bit of emotion based on whatever is happening behind the scenes. So I’m torn and don’t really know how to feel about all this.

Not like pro athletes in other sports don’t do the same thing LOL
Andre Agassi even said, “Image… is everything”

Holy fucking shit. The cognitive dissonance is insane here.

Maybe they are so focused it’s hard to reset, kind of like how actors personalities change. Like when the homelander guy said “stand on my foot again I’ll kill you” in an event 😆

Yeah because Connor McGregor didnt play it up for every single camera

I got this friend who said they wanna get into it so I’m waiting till there’s a show in my city to bring them to. Why are you trying to get people into pro wrestling via red carpets? Are you trying to get them into the fame or the product? Also there aren’t a lotta kayfabe interviews out there anymore, Logan Paul, Chris Van Vilet, Stone Cold are all the actual people doing the interview.

Some people like it, like people who want an actor to be the character from a movie or tv show in real life.

Not your thing, cool, but I don’t think it’s lame if a wrestler chooses to do it.

Unlike a movie or TV show, there is no “premiere”. Each show builds off the last, and there’s never really an off-season. In pretty much all entertainment, BTS content is only released after most of the audience has seen the movie/show. But Wrestling also has some similarities to a magic show, where once you know how the trick is performed, it’s easy to break immersion. For instance, communication between wrestlers and refs during a pin attempt.

I’m new to the wrestling Fandom, but that’s legit something I find so interesting about wrestling vs other forms of media. Live action anime is cool as fuck

Good, don’t need fans that don’t respect kayfabe anyways. Hell if anything, it’s so rare that really, you don’t have much to bitch about. You wouldn’t have made it in the 90’s.
