How often do you make/use a male character instead of a female? And why?

I almost never do if I can choose.
As a bi woman I’ve considered making a male character to romance female straight characters whose romance I was curious about, but only actually brought myself to do it once and never finished the playthrough (and I thought I was straight back then lol).
Never.
Gonna be honest, I do it most of the time, and I do it for the eye candy. Just makes the game that much more enjoyable. A rugged, handsome dude swinging a sword or firing a crossbow? Yes please! Lol.
never lol. i enjoy creating characters that look like myself
I only do when it comes to Acition/Horror stuff
Depends on the game I’m playing. There are plenty of games out there where the main protagonist(s) are male (read dead, gta 5, etc.) or if I am playing a life simulator (like the sims) I would say it’s a lot more even! I do tend to make more feminine/female characters if given the option, as that is what I mostly relate to, honestly. But that is different for everyone!
The reason why I would play as a male (or as someone that isn’t my identity/gender) is because I just think of them as people and don’t really have a reason other than they are a person/character I can play as or create! I just enjoy creating/playing as people I can have a story behind!
Alot. It depends on the game genre and if its multi-player, and my mood starting the game.
Sometimes I do it to avoid the attention I get in gaming when I choose a female avatar if its multi-player.
Sometimes I choose the male character for the looks, as I find men attractive.
Sometimes the games immersion is plainly better as a man, more fitting or he has better writting/choices in the story.
Sometimes the ability options I enjoy more, his play style vs the female option.
There are really a variety of reasons I could perfer a male character over playing the female characters.
Absolutely never. My character is a perfect version of me lol.
Never and it’s because girls always rule ✌️
Only in this one game where I’m a bald villager with candy stuck on his head for gigs
I always do a female character because I can’t seem to immerse myself in the game as well as a male character
Just want to swing in on the guy side here: I usually go with a female character because 1) the fashion choices are usually much more varied and fun, and 2) if I’m going to stare at a character for X amount of hours, I want them to be subjectively hot if possible.
I used to do a lot of role play in ff14. I wrote women and men, never gave it a second thought as to why- I just enjoy the versatility of being able to play different characters.
Outside of an RP context though, I almost always pick female characters (with the exception of MOBA and action games where there is a wide roster of characters to choose from).
I don’t even notice which gender I’m playing as. I just started Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and I let it pick because I really couldn’t care less. I used to pick only females but it doesn’t effect game play and most of the time I end up with something on the face or in 1st person anyway. I went 80% of Grounded in 1st person before I realized you could change it. It didn’t really matter that I picked Willow.
I usually play as a female, but in something like Mass Effect where there’s a bunch of different story options for the male side, I’ll play as both.
In the sims I always make female caracters but sometimes I will chose to play with the son if he’s cool.
If it’s a game where i can die I don’t feel as bad about a male character dying than a female character i’d relate to 😭
If there’s a lot of multiplayer communication I often play as a man. I hate how people act when they think I’m a woman it’s something I’m trying to get over. If it’s voice comms then I really have no choice anyway and would be a woman
Pretty much never. I grew up in a time when female characters in video games were really few and far between. Anytime there was a female character I would play her. It just feels like that’s me there.
I play league of legends and I always pick the female characters to learn, not because of identity but they’re just more attractive to me.
Why would I want to be an ugly man when I can be a hot lady?
Feel kinda guilty saying almost always, I usually pick the best looking guy and just play as him
The only time I use male characters is when I’m playing the sims and am creating a partner for my female sim or creating their children. Any other game I’ll play as a female character that’s as close to myself as I can get
