I’m 17F and babysitting, and I’ve heard a ton about how good babies smell and I’m realizing now it’s true. I just don’t understand it. All this thing does is throw up and shit, but he smells like heaven. I’ve been sniffing him like every 2 minutes. Is there any science behind this?

Lady parts, probably. Source: am science.
Just a wild guess, maybe it’s pheromones?
Baby power
Probably the seasoning
That new car smell is pretty awesome
I don’t know the specific mechanism, but it is probably an ancient adaptive trait of some kind to help with bonding and thereby aid their survival.
Biology
We are designed to love our young
Can’t relate. Lol
I have a 6 week old and I have no idea what you’re talking about… I’m just grateful they don’t stink yet ( the occasional diaper is starting to have an odor, but it’s mainly the pee for now )…
Maybe just that they’re fresh, not really colonized by a lot of bacteria yet… Not sweating, getting swiped with baby wipes 800 times a day, still getting bathed regularly… And too young to be decaying like the rest of us (especially those of us 30+)
Probably a mixture of high dose of growth hormones, sex defining hormones like Estrogen or Testosterone, and generally an extremely active healthy immune system hard at work
I’m not a biologist, doctor, anthropologist or any expert qualified for this question. Just freeballing
Probably that we’re designed to like whatever babies happen to smell like.
Baby animals smell great too though.
baby cakes
The faint scent of baby wipe(d butts)
You must eat him
I think it’s possible that it’s breastmilk. It’s sweet, and if they’re breastfed, it’s all they drink.
It’s pheromones. They exude a good smell that makes you want to hold them and love them, and helps guarantee that they are cared for and kept alive. Biology is cool.
Baby magic. They come out of the womb with the skill to seduce your nostrils. 👶🏻
According to google: Babies smell pleasant due to a combination of factors, including the lingering scent of amniotic fluid and vernix caseosa (the protective coating on their skin at birth), and their unique body chemistry. These substances, along with the scent of baby powder and wipes, create a distinct aroma that many find comforting and endearing.
