it’s in the low 70s in the mornings but in the 90s in the evenings so I’d like to cut the grass in the morning if possible but I have a neighbor and would not like to be rude if possible
edit: thanks guys! I am definitely still gonna be asleep at 7 am. but I was wondering if 10 am was too soon. it seems like most people would find that normal. I have an electric mower and the noise ordinance ends at 7 am on weekdays. thanks again!

9AM, in all the places I’ve been. Might consider asking the neighbor.
A heads-up, though: in the morning that grass is going to be wet with dew, which is going to clog up the mower and even if you have a mulching blade is going to leave globs of grass all over the lawn. Which is why you want to wait until the evening, unfortunately.
9:00 am Weekdays. 11:00 am Weekends. It’s still super early and inconvenient for those who need to sleep in, but technically, it’s logistically reasonable.
Ask your neighbor (but not before 9am).
Most places have noise ordinances, I’d check that and add on an hour or two
In older neighborhoods probably 6am. Every retiree already up and kicking….
Wild idea, but have you tried talking to your neighbor?
I bought an electric mower so I could push the unwritten 9am rule since it just sounds like a fan.
Electric mowers are the best if you’re concerned with disturbing the peace. They are very quiet.
10:00 am
Check your local ordinances, but these people saying 9am or 11am are crazy. I mow my grass at 7am as long as it isn’t too damp. I don’t use a combustion engine mower and I hold off on weedeating until a little later, but no consideration has ever been taken towards me in regards to disturbing my sleep, nor do I feel it is anyone’s responsibility to accommodate others schedules. I work overnight shift and the neighbors love to mow right next to my bedroom at 3 pm, so I adjusted how I do things.
11 am
10am or possibly 11 would be my preference if I was your neighbor.
It’s early enough that you should be finished before the midday heat wave, but not so early that you’re horribly inconveniencing the night owls/third shift workers. You’ll still inevitably piss off someone who sleeps in super late, but in my experience, being startled awake at 10-11 feels a lot less disorienting than 6-8am.
Never before non on the weekend lol
I say 9am, I never do it before. If someone else starts that early i can’t find a reason to be upset at them.
When it’s legal
The lazy fucks in this thread that can’t handle 9am yard work on weekends can buy ear plugs.
Not before ten, in my opinion.
Other posts seem to agree on 9am, but I was going to say 8:00. I’ve worked late nights most of my life, going to bed at about 4:00am and getting up around noon. Any noise that wakes me after 8:00, I just regard as normal people going about their day and I’m the one who has to put up with it.
Have you tried a reel mower? I was surprised at how well they work. They’ve very environmentally friendly and it’s nice not having to be right next to a loud, smelly mower breathing its fumes.
And of course you can start as early as you want and still be able to hear the birds sing. They’re great.
Where I live “quiet” hours are between 11pm and 8am. I’d wait until 9am on weekends because people tend to sleep in.
Call your town hall and ask when the quiet hours are. They are usually later on the weekends. Where I am it’s 8am weekdays, and 9am weekends.
According to me, not before noon. According to my neighbor, at break of dawn. Best bet is ask the neighbor you are concerned about. If they sleep in on weekends they will be very appreciative of you don’t start until later.
9 am weekdays, 10 am Saturday and Sunday
9 to 5
10 am
Not 7 a.m.
Anyone who says 11 or noon probably doesn’t have that much to do to finish their lawn or other chores for the day. It takes me 2 hours to finish my lawn to my preferences + all the other house things that need to get done. I like to start at 9 and be done by noon for lunch.
10 would be fantastic
My neighbor once asked me what time I wake up so he doesn’t disturb me while he cuts the grass. It was nice of him. I am a night owl, so I made up some early morning time to blend in…but at least he tried! I would say 8-9 is reasonable. 9 would obv be better.
These people talking about 11am or noon obviously don’t live where it’s 100 degrees in the summer. I start at 9am because I’m a little lazy. 8am is reasonable but before 8am is not.
8a
Any time after 8 am.
Knock on the door and ask. I find it way more important what they think than what is “normal”. Also I would think this is cultural. I would personally be annoyed by anything before noon but making noise is usually allowed in my country after 7 or 8.
whenever there’s something louder than your mower consistently going. i.e. when traffic starts and people start driving places
Preferably not before 8am but when it’s broiling summer, I’m not mad at 7am. (FL here)
I think this will have wide regional variation. I’m in Texas and we all get started 7-7:30 in my neighborhood because if you’re not done before 10 you’ll have a heat stroke
Wow I must be getting old, because I thought I was being picky thinking 7am was a solid time.
9-10a is usually the accepted time
I’m not a morning person, I would not be happy with mower noise at 9am on a weekend. 10am seems reasonable. And electric mowers are much less offensive.
There are likely relevant local ordinances that will answer the question
