TIFU by talking about someone I don’t like… only to find out they were walking right behind us.

So, my friend and I were walking home today, just chatting about random stuff. We started talking about this person we both really don’t like—some of their habits, how they treat people, just all around not a fan of theirs. We’re laughing and venting about how annoying they are and how we’d avoid them at all costs… you know, typical complaining about a person you can’t stand.

Anyway, we keep walking, completely unaware of our surroundings, until a few minutes later we hear footsteps right behind us. We both turn around, and… guess who’s walking directly behind us? The person we were just trash talking.

They looked at us, probably heard everything, and I swear, the air felt 10 times colder. We didn’t even know what to say. I just muttered something like, “Hey, uh… how’s it going?” while my friend awkwardly waved. It was sooooo embarrassing.

So yeah, moral of the story: If you’re gonna talk about someone, make sure they’re not within earshot, or at least check behind you before venting.

TL;DR: Talked about someone I don’t like with my friend, only to find out they were walking right behind us the entire time.

Don’t say things about people you wouldn’t say to their face. Venting doesn’t have to be mean

Well, if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions.

Nah reddit loves to act as the moral police. It is completely normal and has happened to me when talking about someone else, and to someboy else when talking bout me, thats just how it is.
