Purple is not my favorite color, but I’m in too deep now…

r/

Years ago, someone handmade me a blanket that was purple – it took them hours upon hours to make it, and a lot of love went into it. They chose the color purple because they thought it was my favorite color – it isn’t. I didn’t want to hurt their feelings, and aside from the color, I love the blanket, so I’ve never said anything. And the problem is, to keep from hurting their feelings, I’ve had to continue telling others through the years that my favorite color is purple. Now I’ve amassed many purple gifts and trinkets from friends and family – clothes, flowers, picture frames, tote bags, etc. – and I don’t like purple, but I don’t know how to get out of this!!

Would they really have been offended if you said you loved it, without saying it was your favorite color?

Says you have been loving “blank color” lately and want to get more of that stuff. People’s favorite colors change. Say you also have too much purple stuff now

I have this problem but with whales. It was my “favorite animal” once and now at 33 years old everything everyone buys me has to do with whales LOL

You’re allowed to change your favorite color as you age. Say it changed.

I have this issue with my kid. I told him when he was little it was my favorite color. But not anymore. However he gets so proud of bringing purple stuff to me. He’s a bit emotionally sensitive so I do not dare tell him otherwise. I am also too deep. Good luck.

What, dare I ask, is your favorite color?

I’m sorry but I find it really weird that you told a bunch of other people that purple is your favorite color. Was that really necessary? Couldn’t you just say that you love the blanket and how nice it was that the person made it for you? Why do you have to specifically say that purple is your favorite color?

I get it. I love animals, especially cats. But because of that, all I get are cat themed gifts. Cat measuring cups and spoons, cat socks, cat notebooks, cat stuffed animals, cat stickers, cat shirts, cat totes, about 50 cat coffee mugs, cat statues, cat magnets. Literally anything with cats on it. I’m so sick of getting cat stuff. But I can’t tell anyone because I don’t want to hurt people’s feelings when they try to do something thoughtful. So I just say how much I love it and that it’s “perfect,” which just leads to more cat themed gifts.

you didn’t “have to” tell anyone anything. i genuinely don’t understand how people get into these situations.

“I don’t like purple anymore. My new favorite color is (insert two favorite color).”

My homie immediately you should have said the truth, that it’s not actually your favorite color, and follow it up with something like ‘but it’s beautiful, and purple is nice, I love it thank you so much.’ etc. You need to get out of this hole you put yourself in. Tell the truth before it gets even worse. At this point I’d just say the straight whole truth. But cushion it with the fact that purple is still a nice color. Then no one will get hurt. And you will stop getting purple things. And you will have told the whole truth.

I’ll take all your purple stuff and give you my blue stuff?

You can change your favorite color, no?

Just say you loved the blanket and the color they chose. Now you’ve got so much of that color you’re pivoting away from it. Lately you’re really into XYZ. Tastes change. Also you CAN love the color and also say you’ve got enough of it. Time for different.

Ah man, why does this not seem to happen with actual favorite things? My mother’s classroom and room is covered with pandas because people incorrectly assumed pandas were her favorite animal. Yet mine and anyone else with an actual favorite thing don’t seem to get a lot of those things haha.
