GOW Ragnarok is not a masterpiece

r/

I say this as someone who loved GOW 2018 which I’ve replayed probably over 10 times. The pacing in the first game was probably some of the best that has been in a video game ever. Ragnarok on other hand had some of the worst pacing I’ve ever experienced in a video game.

It definitely had some strong points. Some boss fights were awesome, combat is pretty cool and varied even though the ‘damage sponge’ effect is evident and there’s very little weight to the weapons. The day/night dynamic is pretty cool.

All that time playing as Atreus was not needed. THE GIANT MISSION. ABSOLUTE ASS. THAT ALONE WILL STOP ME FROM EVERY REPLAYING THIS GAME.

The ending was so anti-climactic. We could’ve had the realms all converging on Asgard and fight Thor and Odin on the back of the world serpent as we go through each realm in an epic world breaking fight. That ending had so much potential. The final act of this game had the potential to be something revolutionary and it just wasn’t.

Hell, GOW 2018 had a more epic ending boss fight. This game just underdelivered in so many different aspects. Pretty disappointing tbh. Never understood why everyone and their mama out there was saying it was a masterpiece 10/10.

I hate the Atreus parts. They make the game borderline unreplayable (I’ve replayed it thrice but no more).

Do a lot of people call it a masterpiece?

I agree anyway, disappointing follow up to the 2018 game.

Also Asgard being a viking village was such a weird choice. I know it was “subverting expectations” but you can subvert expectations by making something better. Even Midgard architecture looks phenomenal compared to what Asgard was.

I think it’s more unpopular to say you like playing as Atreus. Personally I prefer Atreus’s gameplay over Kratos.

I’ll be honest it was a one and done for me I enjoyed the game through and through but o couldn’t get myself to replay it again

Yeah, I felt really let down by it.

Its a great game but looking back i can see where you’re coming from. The game just felt way too long tbh. Added way too many unnessary sections. Arteus’ combat was nowhere near as satisfying as Kratos.

I think the unpopular opinion is saying I liked it more than 2018

I hated both the 2018 game and Ragnorok 😅😬

The original trilogy is where its at.

I wouldn’t call it ass, but I did like 2018 more than Ragnarok.

    I fucking hate GOW: Ragnarok.

The whole game felt like a step backwards.
    The combat felt slower.
    They took away fists.
    Barely any new finishing moves.
Kratos & Loki felt like whiny bitches through the whole game.
    Heavily nerfed Runic attacks.
    Shit house Valkyrie fights.

And the twist was so fucking obvious.

    >!Sindri behaviour at the end was soo fucking bullshit, just forcing a conflict between the two. It was Sindri choice to help Loki, don’t go whining when there are consequences ya fucking baby!<

It’s a shit game. I’ve tried to reply it, however, I stop halfway.

God of War 3 is the masterpiece

You’re right. Aside from recycling troll fights as a ton of boss fights, the first game is better. By which I mean GoW 2018.

Idk if many would consider it a masterpoiece honestly. Amazing game yes but definitely does not have the impact and awe the first game did. It’s definitely more of the same sort of deal with some refinement and quality of life changes.
