AITA

r/

I currently work as a server on weekends when having a 9-5 on weekdays. There is a big market in town so I asked my boss if they would like me to come in after I get off during the week to help out. They said yes. A couple days later my coworker was looking around for someone to cover his shift one of those nights I offered to help. I told him I was already working since I offered to come in and he told me that he was offering $50 for someone to take it. I told him I would go talk to our boss and see if I could just cover him instead, that way he for sure knows his shift is covered.

He went to my boss instead and I do not know exactly what was stated but my boss said that I was lying to my coworker and that I was being unfair. He told my coworker to take the day off and not give me the $50, and then let our other manager know that I was covering for him. Other coworkers had heard both conversations and everyone seems to think that I should have gotten paid, even though I was already supposed to come in since I offered.

AITA?

“Sorry, I think boss gave you the wrong information. I’m actually not able to work that shift and I never agreed to it.”
