It just so happens that the Yankees won the 1962 World Series just days before my birth.
It should be noted that I was born in suburban Philadelphia and had all the requisite Philly fandoms thrust upon me at an early age. However, I moved to suburban NY when I was 7, and being 8, was under the impression that you had to be a fan of the local teams. As a newbie NYer, I had my choice between the NY Mets (who had just won the World Series) and the Yankees who were not doing so well.
I also had my choice between the NY Jets (who had just won the Super Bowl) and the NY Giants who were not doing so well.
In any event, I guess I was gifted with some sort of Glorfindelesque foresight, and opted to have the Yankees and the Giants as my teams. They haven’t won ever year, of course, but all in all, I chose wisely as a child.
Looks like I’m a fan of da bears.
