Just look at the comment section of the video above. There are a lot of people who seem to live in an uncultured basement or a totalitarian country, or seem to miss a lot of in life, by not knowing the current things.

How do people keep up these days?
I stopped learning about new popular music when I stopped listening to the radio because it was less annoying to listen to the large library of music I already like – no adverts, no inane DJ chatter.
I have no idea what’s on television any more since I gave up on watching whatever was being broadcast and switched to streaming.
I used to know what was going on in superhero comics, but I gave up when they killed off a character and acted like it was a big event, only I thought was already dead and had missed the one where they brought him back to life.
You get older and realize it doesn’t matter.
The further you get from 30-35, the less importance you put on it and care more about political and taking care of your family.
Hope this helps.
Oh, life also feels like it speeds up the older you get. Your brain doesn’t have to create as much new memories, since the brain is fully capable of reusing memories of places you’ve been or experiences you’ve had before.
By not checking.
I never had enough neurons in my head to care about celebrities, music, social media. That stuff is boring as fuck, there are more interesting things out there than other people’s lives.
Because you grow up and dont have time to keep up with nonsense that doesnt matter
Go be media literate elsewhere. We don’t care.
As you get older, you just don’t care or you lose interest in things that seemed important when you were younger.
I think they think it makes them some kind of special to be ignorant of extremely popular things or people. I always see stories about popular celebrities and the comments are full of people saying, “Who?” Like, you follow a celebrity gossip page on Facebook. Don’t pretend like you don’t know who Taylor Swift is. It’s the new kind of hipster. Instead of taking pride in knowing about and liking obscure things, they take pride in not knowing universally huge things.
Happily, in my case, I was never in touch with any of it. Nothing about monkey see, monkey do interests me.
I checked the video link, and I understand your point. A lot of the comments might reflect that feeling of being out of touch or confused about why certain things are popular. A common reaction is that the rapid pace of trends, social media, or music makes it hard to keep up. Some people may just have different interests, or they may feel overwhelmed by how fast everything is evolving.
It’s really easy to lose touch with current trends, all you have to do is simply not care about them. I have absolutely no idea what the kids are doing today because I don’t ever think about it and I’m fine with that level of ignorance because it’s really not important.
Most of those trends and “current things” have no real impact on your life. It’s all just like a giant ad campaign. And you have to spend a lot of your free time to stay informed. To what end? So that the people behind it can sell you their latest stuff?
I don’t need their stuff and I value my free time too much to waste it on that. I’ll inform myself on stuff I’m interested in. I don’t need other people to tell me what i have to be interested in today.
Because they do not matter at all.
I stopped using Twitter because normal people don’t use nazi websites, stopped using Facebook because I don’t like spyware. I lost touch with pop culture pretty quickly.
With the internet, we all easily have our own different algorithms based off of our own interests. This isn’t like before when I was younger, we were all listening to the radio stations while driving listening to the latest and greatest hits. Now I drive with my Spotify listening to what I want.
Current trends are subjective. Most 18 year olds don’t keep up with Medicare trends, James Taylor’s tour dates, current trends in post-menopausal treatments, the latest orthotics, AARP, etc.
So my point is that people do keep up with trends but it’s dependent on what they have going on their lives. Kids have time and energy to expend on things like Roblox, YouTube, TikTok, etc. because just about everything else in their lives is managed for them: school, food prep, social engagements, etc. are all managed by parents and other caregivers.
Once you start adulting, you have to focus on work schedules, paying bills, dealing with childcare, trying to be intentional about spending what limited free time you have either resting or socializing, and so on. Unless it’s part of your job or a hobby, things like the latest Fortnite seasons and who’s trending on Spotify just don’t matter anymore.
And yes, I know my examples are probably already outdated.
I don’t pay attention.
Simple, don’t have the opportunity. I had kids and they control all the entertainment. I’m not disappointed even though I used to be a huge music and entertainment junkie. Now days I am invested in what my kids like, as I would want to be. OP, lol, people change. It’s good to enjoy things but it’s not that deep. When my kids grow up a bit more I will find new interests. Can’t wait to figure out what it is. Life is more fun if you roll with it.
Most current trends are aimed at younger people. Once you get to a certain age the current trends don’t appeal to you so you stop trying to keep up. It happens to everyone.
For one I dont have social media unless reddit counts.
Im busy raising my kids and working a career towards retirement someday.
At my age I barely have the energy and time for my hobbies.
What little time I do have is spent on my kids hobbies/interest/sports.
But most of all, I truly never cared what basketball player the kardashians are dating week by week or where Justin Bieber spent his vacation .
That stuff just never interested me. I have enough on my plate, I don’t need to worry about pop culture too.
I have better things to do with my time, being a parent doesn’t leave much time for social media and reading other people’s opinions.
I think they are just focusing on more important things. That is mostly just superficial stuff, I have responsibilities and commitments. People to provide and care for, idc which athlete is dating a kardashian. Consuming cultivated media and being herded doesn’t make you some worldly person.
Will this be relevant in 10 years? Unlikely. So why bother?
