I’m from a cold country where many have pale skin, yet wherever I go I catch the sun and constantly hear “gosh your skin is so red”.
I speak on behalf of all people like us in saying – “we know, it hurts, it’s ugly, it’s embarrassing, stop it”.
Suncream often doesn’t work, there are instances where we forget to apply it, the sun can come out unexpectedly and only 30 minutes with no shade can result in a lobster-like complexion for the next few days. Please give it a rest with the “wow you’re so sunbured!”
Edit: people seem to be misunderstanding – this isnt a post about how great it is that I get sunburned. I’m aware of the risks of skin cancer, and how it is the individual’s responsibility to apply suncream correctly and cover up. But when that fails it’s important for other, completely unaffected people to not feel the need to say anything and just keep their mouths closed.

Stop getting sunburned then
Apply your sun cream better then.
Or get a sun cream that works.
If you know you’re more likely to be sun burnt that would make you more vigilant, no? Could carry suncream in a side bag?
Nah that shit is practically a foreign concept to me , there is a good chance I’m going to show concern. Most like I’m probably thinking you’re about to stroke out, probably won’t even know it’s a sunburn.
I get that it’s annoying people are commenting about how red you are, but maybe it’s a wake up call to be more diligent with sun protection, I’m talking spf every 2 hours ALONG with spf protected hats or umbrellas, whatever is available. The best sun protection is something physical such as a hat
Most people in general, especially old people are tactless and don’t care if they offend or hurt others feelings by speaking mindlessly from the top of their thoughts.
Sunscreen doesn’t work is the biggest lie you’re telling yourself in this post. I went to Cancun and applied 50spf non stop and barely even got tan. I also have a very pale skin and burn like a lobsters out in the sun without sunscreen tho. Please invest in better sunscreen and take care of your skin!
The most asinine thing to be bothered by lmao
Ginger here. While I rarely sunburn due to good application of SPF or other protection, I do agree that these comments are highly annoying.
I call bullshit.
Sunscreen when used correctly ALWAYS works. Sincerely- an Irish person.
Okay I’ll stop
Sometimes, the truth burns 😬
Out of all the First-World Problems, this is the Firstest-World Problem.
Why would you be embarrassed for getting a sunburn? I’m as white as they come and burn very easily but I’ve never felt embarrassed by it.
I’m black with zero concept of sun screen. It’s just not needed, so the first time I saw a white dude with a sunburn, I thought he got attacked with some weak acid . Just had never seen that shit before.
Ask them why they are commenting on your skin color. Are they racist?
Shuts them the fuck up real fast.
As someone who has had skin cancer lopped off from way too many sunburns, no, I won’t stop saying it. I still love the sun, still go out in the sun, I’m just much smarter about it.
“Sunscreen often doesn’t work” – bullshit, stop lying to yourself.
I’m so white that I’m practically transparent, and I haven’t had a sunburn in probably 15 years. I also have people commenting that I look ten years younger than I am. It’s not a coincidence.
Maybe you need to be better about protecting your skin. Skin cancer isn’t a joke.
What, are you putting on SPF 10 every morning and say that sunscreen doesn’t work, or something? Put on spf 50 3 times a day and you’ll have no problem. I get sunburned easily and I know it’s my ownfault if I get burned.
While I disagree that sunburns are not preventable, because they absolutely are lol…I agree with you that commenting on other people’s is uncool. To me this falls in the same moral category as not commenting on someone’s weight, even if it’s unhealthy.
Have you tried reasoning with the sun? Have a frank talk with that huge ball of gas and fire about respecting your boundaries.
Or..or…apply sunscreen more diligently.
Sorry for noticing something that can give you cancer and being concerned…
Sunscreen works. If it doesn’t it’s user error.
I like when I get sunburnt and people comment on it, feels good to have gone outside and done something
Sunscreen always works. Actually impossible for it to not work. Take better care of your skin.
my face cream that i put on everyday has spf, so i have no idea what you are on about
i’m about as pale as you can get and i swear by the p20 spf 50 spray.
Use sunscreen correctly, whitey 😂 might help you get less comments. Lmao.
When people talk about a person “who takes care of themselves,” they’re usually being low-key weight/body shamers, but this is what that means for me. Protecting your skin is hardly different from basic hygiene. Stop burning yourself, geez.
I’m not a pale person, but can 30 minutes of unexpected sun result in a lobster like burn for a few days? Because that seems a bit extreme.
I live in a very dark arctic climate and throughout the winter barely see the sun. When the sun comes out in the summer I am not getting sunburned. Took the family to Hawaii a couple years ago and again didn’t just burst into lobster red sunburns. Just got some spray on sun screen and used a bit of that before we went out. I did get a little tiny sunburned the day we were leaving Hawaii though so I had some sun burns to bring home to the frozen north.
Feeling your pain OP. When you have chronic rhinitis due to allergies, it gets pretty boring when people constantly ask you if you have a cold. No, I’m fine – I just react badly to dust, mould and pollen.
The biggest lie you told yourself is “sunscreen often doesn’t work” so you proceed to spend 30 minutes in the sun, which is enough to burn with medium to high UV index exposure. From one pale person to another: wear sunscreen or cover up always, even if you’re only going to the mailbox or driving from one place to another. You will stop burning and you’ll also get rid of the farmers’ tan you likely have.
“I speak for all of us” no the fuck you don’t. You speak for yourself.
And you’re angry that your friends are concerned about if you’re in pain?
