If you don’t know what “The Rapture” is, it’s the Christian theory that God will take Christian believers from Earth into Heaven. There are different variations but this is the core belief.
My parents told me through my entire childhood that Jesus was coming back for Christians soon, and of course I believed it, much like a lot of kids believe in Santa Clause.

Why did they do that? To scare you? Do you believe in Jesus still?
Did you ever read the “Left Behind” book series? If so, did that affect your views about what you were told would happen?
Given that people have believed this for thousands of years (see Mark 9:1), how do you feel about it now, given the rapture’s conspicuous absence?
Sounds like you no longer believe this to be true. How has your life changed since this realization?
I actually grew up in it many people like this
My parents got started on that in 1967 – they were talking about The Rapture back then. Only 144,000 “Christian” would be Raptured. How many of these fervent “Christian Nationalists” would actually be accepted as true Christians in heaven? How many Think they would be?
Ever heard of the Rapture Prank – leave clothes and shoes on sidewalks and driveways arrayed to make it look like their heathen neighbors were taken up – and They Weren’t!
As a Christian I’d say the Bible still is not fully understood, it never will be. Even to stuff as simple as the 7 Days, that could very easily be a metaphor. Someone telling you that the Second Coming is imminent is simply making a guess. We have no idea what timeframe God runs on, that’s up to him. He made the world millions of years ago, Jesus only came two thousand years ago. It could be many, many, many generations before he comes one again. If you’re interested, the book of Revelations is an interesting read, assuming you haven’t read it. I still haven’t read it in its entirety.
I have faith because I grew up a Christian and always will be. People might try to tell me otherwise but I have faith in Jesus and the Holy Spirit. That will never change.
My main question here is, considering this and how we really have no idea when it will happen, and chances are we will be long gone when it does, why would you only now assume otherwise?
Part of being a Christian is having faith despite adversity.
John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one begotten son, that forever who believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life”. In my opinion this one verse is basically the thesis statement of the Bible.
People going to heaven is not a one time thing, not everyone will go at once. No one could possibly know what The Second Coming actually brings other than saving us once again.
