For reference, I live in NY. I don’t understand how the city is doing anything about them? Yes, I know being homeless isn’t a crime but at least try to do something about it. I’m not skilled in social work but why isn’t more being done.
I’m a small-ish girl and I feel unsafe walking in front of my own office in midtown sometimes. I missed someone spitting on me yesterday by a few inches and I’ve had them come up and scream in my ear while waiting to cross the street.
I hate having to hold my breath on very street corner and every subway station and I pay my fair share of taxes to not have to deal with this.
I know I’m not the first to say this but I’m just so exhausted of having to constantly have this on my mind every single time I want to go outside.

i’m in CA and i feel this in my soul, one time this man came up to my car window at like 6 am before i had to work and i got so fed up that i got in his face and screamed- obviously don’t do that it’s stupid and not safe but when i saw the fear of god in that man’s eyes, it made it all worth it
Always remember, there are more empty buildings and houses than homeless people in the USA~
What do you expect the city and state to do?
Effectively spend money to address this problem?
But then everyone tasked with solving the problem will be left jobless once the problem is solved!!
How selfish of you!
It’s a systemic problem no one is really invested in addressing. It’s all over the country. I was sexually assaulted by a homeless man outside of my work and I live in Minneapolis.
Speaking as a girl who has been through those types of situations, the problem is not the homeless people. The problem is the system and the housing.
I feel your frustration. It is changing, and they are cracking down on it in some areas with great success. It seems to politically align with red states more so than blue states. But at least it is working in some places.
You obviously aren’t from NY, or you were born after the late 90s.
Homeless has always been an issue, but Giuliani cleaned up the city. Bloomberg wasn’t bad, but de Blasio was horrible and created this problem.
The problem is people have addictions and can’t contribute to society what so ever. A lot of people choose the streets, it becomes all they know
Because there are efforts nationwide to criminalize homelessness. And prisons are very profitable. Democrats in particular can do lip service about caring to provide housing but in reality they don’t do shit either (see: Gavin newsome participating in homeless encampment clearing/using them as a photo op)
One thing that I have that’s kind of a hot take or whatever but it seems like many of the people who are staunch supporters of leniency of this never have to deal with the negative aspects of it. I have a friend who’s pretty well off like on the high end of upper middle class. He and his wife live in a very nice suburb that is very clean and quiet. He and his wife are both staunch Democrats and watch MSNBC all day long. One time I felt like saying would you still feel the same if there were 50 homeless camped out in tents in your neighborhood and you had to walk across needles to get to your car? My guess is no but I didn’t say that because I like staying at their house and drinking red wine lol.
Remember, every time we’re mad at homeless people, we should be mad at the system for not housing them.
It’s proven time and time again that it’s the most effective and cheapest option to deal with unhoused people. But we won’t because society thinks they don’t deserve to get help for free.
We should take this personally as it’s also saying that people like you don’t deserve safe streets because of other people’s “choices” (inability to pull themselves out of a cycle of crushing systemic poverty on thier own).
I’m so sick of a corrupt system that squanders trillions on idiotic ego projects, like rockets, yachts, and even plain hoarding – while a minuscule portion of that money could alleviate it.
This sounds like a big city issue. Homeless people here don’t really get in the way and you don’t see the full scale of it because they have a camp on the outskirts.
Though idk why you’re blaming someone who just happens to be HOMELESS instead of realizing that even people with mansions can act this way.
Homeless people aren’t usually the ones committing violent crimes either. I think your view of them is just heavily skewed because of the media.
Don’t blame the people who are the real victims here.
im sorry that watching people go through some of the worst times a person can go through makes you uncomfortable thats life babe😭
People protest against things but not often enough about this.
