What could have you done or changed to allow this not to happen?
Edit: based on people’s reaction, I didn’t mean to sound judgmental OP. Sorry. I was just curious since it’s your first time being homeless and just wanted to know what happened that could help others including myself. I’ve experienced difficulties (but this is not my AMA) and someone asked me the same questions to help them. 🤗
Not a slight. I worked with homeless men at one shelter and homeless youth at another. Most of the youth I would say were on the neurodivergent spectrum somewhere and just didn’t have families that cared, rough combo for climbing out of it. Or they were self medicating things like schizophrenia with hard drugs. But a noticeable amount, probably about 15-20% were “spanging” by choice.
The men, similar story, but leaning more into the drug use side, and “camp communities” in the forest.
Hi thank you for posting this! Especially considering how cruel people can be to people in your position. I work with homeless/vulnerable young adults doing workforce navigation and some general case management support. Could you (or that other kind person who’s been answering some questions from their perspective) tell me how I can best support someone in your shoes? I know you’re just one person, not a monolith, but what would help you best in terms of how to speak to you about your experiences, what sort of questions to/not to ask, what sort of unique supports have you found helpful or that could be helpful? Just really any advice for someone in a position of supporting you and wanting to do their best by you.
how do you stay warm during the coldest parts of winter? where i am it can get as cold as -30c / -22f, it’s not unheard of for the homeless to be found lifeless frozen to death in those times
I lived in my car for several years often on throughout the course of my life, and people really underestimate the convenience of having a toilet within a few feet of their bed.

What’s something you wish more people knew/understood about homelessness?
What resources do you wish were more available?
Do you have a car to stay in or couches to surf on?
What could have you done or changed to allow this not to happen?

Was the “experience” the result of mind control?
I’m sorry, first and foremost. Are you American?
Whats the scariest moment that’s happened so far
Do you have a plan yet about getting out of it? Or will you make a plan soon?
Where do you poop?
What circumstances led you to becoming homeless?
Street, car, motel, or couch surfing homeless?
How did you get to be homeless
How long have you been homeless for? Anything that you’ve been surprised by?
How old are you? Do you have any support? How long have you been homeless?
Where do you sleep
By choice?

How often are bugs an issue?
What do you enjoy most in life?
Where do you shower most often?
How is it?
Perhaps a dumb question, but are you okay? I genuinely hope that things get better
Are you afraid at night? I was terrified at night and slept during the day
Do you prefer the term unhoused?
Were you in foster care?
What are some of the “rules” of living on the street that you’ve learned?
Do you have a job to support yourself? If so, what is it?
How did it happen
Good thing OP is answering..
Where is OP, I see no answers.
Fuck. Im sorry. Hope the future gets better quickly

I’m sorry to hear that, and I hope you get out of the homeless phase asap. How did you end up being homeless?
I did not know that homeless people have phones?
How have your interactions been with other homeless people? Have you had to fight anyone, or have you made any acquaintances (if not friends)
You’re not the dude sleeping in his car with his dog in my close right now are you?

How you afford to have an active phone and Reddit ?
How are you on reddit?
How did you end up in this situation?
Not judging. I realize this can happen to anybody. Thus the question
Did you ever consider or have you ever stayed at a squat house?
What makes your day?
Why do you have a phone?
Is your tent moist?
Are you able to apply for government benefits?
Did anyone beat you up ?
Do you have a car?
Got change for a dollar?

What was life before homelessness? What did you do as your previous job? Any family you can rely on?
