I keep seeing pictures but I still don’t understand as far as I think is that their is a airstone causing bubbles but I’m not understanding how it’s pulling the water through the sponge and filtering the water but I know they work I think, because I see it pulling my substrate through the Bubble column but I wanna know how the bubbles pull the water in to filter it :P.

The sponge filters sit around the pump inlet to filter out some of the larger particles that would otherwise build up inside the pump and stop it working.
the air bubbles create a drag effect, air naturally wants to rise up, as it rises uo it drags water behind it to replace the position it originally had. so as it moves up the water moves up behind it creating as constant circulation where the water is pulled through the sponge and up and around to circulate the tank.
side note, if you google underwater waterfall for aquariums you’ll see the same effect pulling sand up through pvc pipe to create a waterfall effect with sand that drops when out of the flow and recirculates around again
