Vacations as an adult is far more stressful than relaxing

r/

For the past month, my partner and I have been trying to plan a trip for our kids. Between trying to get the ‘best bang for your buck’ and making sure this vacation is a memorable one is so stressful. The thought of being on the trip itself and dealing with things like lines, deciding where to eat every day, worrying about the car rental, etc makes us not even want to go.

i think the title should be “Vacations as an parent is far more stressful than relaxing”

as an adult you can make it as stressful or relaxing as you want.

    Your problem is your kids.

Honestly, this is why I don’t like to travel.

Every time I have to travel somewhere, I take the next day off work after I get back as well, just to have some time to actually relax and rest.

It’s only stressful to me when I’m doing it with idiots.

No kids, travel alone. That’s the way.

I feel like this should say vacations with kids maybe… because I’m childless but love planning and taking vacations lol. But I can’t speak for the latter.

Yeah, just came back from 2 weeks drinking beer and eating steak in the sun with 4 mates. Really stressful, glad to be back at work really.

Put your kids in a camp in Europe. They’re much cheaper than in the US. Then You and spouse chill during the day and get adult time, then kid stuff at night.

They get exposed to culture and hang with tons of new friends, get exhausted by camp activities, and you guys get a reprieve and still get to enjoy family time

Our last vacation involved spending 7 days as a family in a tiny house in the forests of New Zealand. No Internet, no TV, just us playing card and boardgames and bonding as a family. We’d either cook dinner or go into town and eat. When we went into town the kids would play on a playground and mom and me would sit on a bench or walk around the lake or go to the Laundromat.

It was about the most stressless vacation we’ve ever planned or went on.

Find a lake or beach nearby, rent an Air BnB, pack a cooler full of food, and voila. You have a memorable and affordable vacation.

Last week my husband said, Let’s go to the coast for a week with my sister and her husband and kid (his sister doesn’t like me). We’ll get a joint suite so we can cook and not have to eat out every day. So I said…uhhh, that means you and your BIL have a vacation, while me and sister do the same things we do at home all the time 😂

I’m trying to arrange a really cool vacation so he doesnt default to that…

Are you planning a Disney trip or something? If it’s not Disney or some convention where you’re planning out a rigid schedule, your only goal is to make sure everyone is having fun.

Only if you have kids. We have a great fucking time and don’t worry about a single thing you mentioned in your post

I love traveling with my kids. Now we have way more fun than pre-kid vacations but we still relax and enjoy ourselves. Maybe the destinations/types of vacations you are planning is the problem? We go to the beach a lot, sometimes “glamping” in the Smokey Mountains, a couple of times we have just picked a city to explore for a few days. Mine are 11 and 13, but we’ve been doing trips like this since they were babies. Maybe trying to get the most bang for your buck results in you guys doing too much. If you want a relaxing vacation, you need to allow time in your day to… You know… Relax
