McDonald’s, Wendy’s, A&W, and Burger King all used to offer a side salad option (usually garden or ceasar). I assume this is unpopular, because they sold poorly enough to be taken off the menu. I’m bummed out about it because I was one of the people who often swapped my fries for a salad. I’ve pretty much stopped fast food completely because of the change.
Fast food is not a healthy choice, and they shouldn’t try to market it that way. You don’t go to McDonald’s for a guilt-free meal, but cold leafy greens tempers the rest of a greasy, sugar-filled lunch so you stay satiated longer and avoid uncomfortable bloating (gimme that FIBRE bro). Fries taste good, but they have zero nutritional value and only dehydrate you with all the extra salt. McDonald’s burgers have tanked in recent years, but I would buy a Big Mac if it came with ceasar salad.
Wendy’s in particular used to have 5 AWESOME salads (taco, cobb, ceasar, garden, and some kind of apple pecan thing). They had good veggies and dressing and they were all available in half sizes as a side. Not anymore. This might be regional, but where I am you can’t get them and it sucks!
They taste good too. Give me back my fast food salad!

My mom used to work for Wendy’s in the 1980’s when they had a salad bar and apparently it was AMAZING – they’d have to physically remove me from the establishment if my Wendy’s still had one 😂
Aye. I used to do the same.
Salads are delicious, varied, involving and crunchy and (depending on the dressing, if any) nothing that resembles health food.
Fries are delicious, but they’re also mostly just a way to convey ketchup into one’s mouth hole, and are never health food.
I like both. I very strongly preferred the salad when that was an option.
And any time I found myself inside of a Wendy’s having a burger and a salad (instead of a fries) and looked around, I’d find that I was the only person doing it this way.
So yes: According to my observation, it is an unpopular opinion.
Nevermind salad as a side, I used to go to Wendy’s frequently just for their Asian chicken salad. Remarkably good.
Man I used to love the pitas they had at Wendy’s and those salad shaker things at McDonald’s. I’m genuinely disappointed that Taco Bell got rid of their salad option too.
