My long time friend of 20 years had a mental breakdown or panic attack, started seeing people following him, even in his house. His parents had to forcefully admit him to mental asylum.
This was years ago , he lost his job , mooches off his dad, shut in to the point he doesn’t come out to talk with his parents in the same house.
I started visiting him few times over the last few months after a long time , comes out to greet me , and escorts me out till his property when i leave. However things turned bad on my last visit with a another mutual friend, he’s actually his ex best friend, anyway he kept glaring daggers at me entire time , when I asked about why he’s quite and starting like that he said, he’s normal and this happened few more times till he started asking me scary questions like did “(name1) send you , you are part of (name 2s) family “
The way he looked at me was like he was going to jump at me , our mutual friend calmed him down and changed topics. But I don’t think i feel safe around him now… Should I try to do something else or stop visiting?

in all likelihood, he’s a threat now. it seems like he’s developed clinical paranoia. even harmless, friendly approaches are likely to be perceived as threats. this is a can’t win, shouldn’t try scenario
