Something I always see in prison documentaries and by inmates is how much they hate child molesters. Obviously I do too, but I always wondered why it’s ONLY the molesters they’re going after?
It seems like the people who are charged with child neglect, child abuse (non sexual), or even child murder are treated with respect in prison, and it makes no sense to me. Like as long as they hurt a child non sexually, they’re off the hook.
In my opinion, someone who kills or neglects a child is just as evil as someone who molests one. You hurt that child in some way. So why do prisoners only care about the sexual aspect of it?

From what I know you get treated almost exactly the same if your crime is committed against a child.
They don’t especially in a women’s prison
In my opinion the whole view of “prison as punishment” misunderstands the point of it anyway. I recognise this is against the spirit of the subreddit, but I will slightly ignore the question. Prisons are there to make society safer. This means rehabilitating the inmates. Frankly, the fact that the inmates attack each other at all is a massive issue, as that is not normal social behaviour.
Many probably have children and either don’t see their children or never have. So someone molesting a child could be something that could happen to theirs
Knowing plenty of people from all races who have gone to prison: children, women (sometimes), and the elderly are off limits. You do anything to one of those groups and I promise you: you already have enemies waiting for you on the inside.
