Anyone else went through a face as a kid where you were **genuinely** concerned about the Bermuda Triangle?

r/

Saw this question on another sub, and it hit me – i did the same thing too.
Like, why aren’t we solving this??
Anyone had that phase?

There’s nothing to “solve” – a remote travel expanse with highly variable weather patterns due to its geography is going to have a proportionately higher level of ships and planes taken out by freak weather changes.

  2. AmicoPrime Avatar

I was never very concerned about it, but cartoons did have me convinced that someday it might be an issue I would have to face. Same for quicksand, too.

  3. Pink_Flying_Pasta Avatar

Not about that, but quicksand scared the hell out of me as a child

  4. Left_Statistician416 Avatar

I flirted with the idea of becoming the most renown researcher of the BT for an afternoon.

  5. DaftPump Avatar

I grew up thousands of miles away so I didn’t care. Killer bees and quicksand tho…

  6. BarryZZZ Avatar

Nope, I grew up in Miami and was certain that the entire Blah Blah was bullshit. Shallow waters, coral reefs and sudden violent weather are all endemic to the region. A wee bit of navigational error can get way out of hand for purely natural reasons.

  7. Mythnlore Avatar

Tail Spin had an episode about that. It got to me.

  8. IAmABeatle Avatar

Me. Now my worries include existential dread

  9. ThatOneRandomGoose Avatar

Don’t remember. Was probably just about as worried about it as I was about quicksand and whirlpools

  10. OwlIsWatching Avatar

Yuuup. Didn’t live anywhere near it, wasn’t planning on ever going near it, but I was TERRIFIED of it as a kid.

  11. ExhaustedByStupidity Avatar

Everyone that grew up watching Unsolved Mysteries.

Kinda crazy how the aliens spent all their time in the Bermuda Triangle and drawing patterns in our corn fields.

  12. RMHPhoto Avatar

I was too worried about quicksand!

  13. TheFoxsWeddingTarot Avatar

Absolutely. My brother was a sailor and crossed through it more than once.

  14. mgkqpz Avatar

Of course, when I was a child

I went through three faces as a kid!

This was not one of them.

  17. fermat9990 Avatar

I thought that it was real

  18. S3simulation Avatar

I was worried that whatever was causing the perceived phenomena would spread or escape

  19. Braincyclopedia Avatar

This was mandatory for 80’s and 90’s kids

  20. PAXICHEN Avatar

No. But I went through a phase.

As others have mentioned, fire ants and killer bees were the other things to be afraid of.

  21. couldveBeenSasha Avatar

    Was vampires for me.

Like one of them coming into my room at night and biting my neck. I got my hair cut around that time too and thought that would make it worse.

  22. TheDarkWarriorBlake Avatar

Not concerned, I do miss believing in it though, life was more fun when there were chances of Bermuda Triangle disappearances and the ark of the covenant, and not just … ya know… the commute to work.

  23. foreveralonesolo Avatar

Honestly it was just the odd experience where even adults were confused so I’m like hmm

  24. pysen1 Avatar

I have a video of 7 year old me somewhere enthusiastically that I will be the one to go to the Bermuda triangle and prove whether it’s real or not. It had a death grip on my little pea brain.

  25. Yeppie-Kanye Avatar

    Concerned no, fascinated yes

  26. 300wizzum Avatar

Yes, along with the ozone hole issue the 90s were not a happy time for me.

  27. Lonely_skeptic Avatar

My mom was very intelligent, but she read the National Enquurer for kicks & the crossword, I guess. The Bermuda Triangle was a prime topic for bathroom reading.

  28. BabalonBimbo Avatar

Also went thru a spontaneous combustion phase.

  29. OldKentRoad29 Avatar

Yes. My British relatives would call and the caller id would say Bermuda. I would be so scared that I would run away.

  30. Techgenoot Avatar

    I phased my fear.

  31. WolfsmaulVibes Avatar

i was concerned like “we gotta do something about this”

  32. brown_nomadic Avatar

I always thought giant man eating flytraps were a real thing

  33. Smile_Candid Avatar

Idk where we learned it from, but yes me and my fellow nine year olds were concerned.

  34. fuhfuhfuhfree Avatar

I definitely worried too much about the Bermuda triangle, quick sand and piranha.

  35. Huge_Meaning_545 Avatar

Not concerned, but very interested, and still am.

My big concern was killer bees.

I remember seeing a show in ’96 that GUARANTEED they’d be in Canada by 2000.

Haven’t seen one, but I’m still petrified of them all.

  36. Abbiethedog Avatar

    Quicksand was more my vibe.

  37. p0tat0p0tat0 Avatar

No. It always seemed silly to me. It was a large chunk of ocean

  38. Bombinic Avatar

    Nah, it was bottomless pits.
