Why do some people call everything they don’t understand ‘cringe’ or ‘fake,’ instead of just admitting they don’t get it?

I see this online all the time. Someone shares something weird or niche, and people instantly go ‘ugh, so cringe’ or ‘that’s fake’ what is it so hard to just say ‘I dont get it’ or ‘this isn’t for me’ ?

Some people aren’t comfortable admitting they don’t know something.

If people really don’t get it, they may think it’s fake because they don’t understand how it couldn’t be.

It’s a lot easier to tear something/one down than admit you don’t understand. It requires self awareness and vulnerability and that’s too much for some.

It’s easier to say you don’t like something than it is to say you are afraid of something.

Those words describe totally different things.

I don’t use those words to describe things I don’t understand. I use dark humor and snarky comments. Some might find that cringe though, since many people take jokes seriously, even though it’s fake.
