So, back in the day I used to do a lot of urban exploration. On this particular day, after a lot of aimless walking, I came across an abounded factory. To make a long story short, I went down a corridor that led to a basement as big as an apartment. This basement had no windows, and therefore it was pitch black. It might have been my imagination, but the air felt heavy. It was that closed off. I explored the place slowly and carefully, trying to absorb every detail, find any potential hidden treasure and trying to not bump into any undesirable obstacles. It was when I reached the very end of the basement that I found something pale white in the floor.
I saw it from a distance at first and for a second I got startled. It didn’t look like anything else that I had encountered thus far. It looked “organic”, for a lack of a better term. Upon closer inspection, it was a dead rabbit. It had been there for so long that it was mummified.
I didn’t think about it for too long and moved on. The thought of going back with a trash bag, grabbing it and giving it a proper burial crossed my mind but nothing more. It wasn’t until today that I began thinking about with more detail.
Did this rabbit find it’s way into the abounded factory, into the basement and into the depths of said basement only to never find it’s way out? Did it then die of starvation and remain there motionless long enough to be mummified? It bums me out to think about.
