In many cultures you are not considered “married” until the husband consumates the marriage, and often confirms that the bride was a virgin.
Why would they suddenly get a choice?

I have met Indian couples her waited to get to know each other better first. I am from the Balkans and have also met people from my culture that waited.

Alot of the times arranged marriages aren’t between total strangers, tho these instances have existed.
My uncles got married to women they knew but were within the LARGER clan (clan is a loose word) who were like family and distant cousins.
