I’m about to have my second job interview tomorrow and I’m anxious bc of my previous performance

r/

Hey folks! I (20M) got another job offer and about be interviewed tomorrow morning and I absolutely cannot contain my nerves lol! I made a post about my previous performance and tldr it went badly. I was told that I should pretend to be confident but I couldn’t keep up. I stumbled upon my words, made really bad response, unintentionally stating that I’m unfit for the role.

I had really bad cringe attacks and for a SECOnd, thought that work life isn’t for me and I should just be a house husband for my partner lmao.

I could definitely use some kind of communications training bc my upbringing was just me learning how to shut up and now I’m struggling how to express myself verbally.

I tried to learn from my mistakes though. I have written down all the potential questions and answers so I can be more prepared this time.
I’m also trying to adopt a new mindset that I genuinely have something to offer to companies and it’s okay if they decide that I’m not needed there.

Ig another thing that’s making me nervous is the pressure that I have to get a job as soon as possible and be able to provide for my family, making me feel somewhat desperate to get this job. I understand that desperation could negatively impact my mentality going into this interview so I’m trying to get rid of that.

Curious how did y’all prepare for your first job interviews?

The best English language job resource is the Ask A Manager blog (sorry if you already knew this) and it has a whole bunch of tips specifically about interviews. It talks a lot about appropriate and effective communication on the job also.

Also, your previous interview didn’t go badly. You can tell because you got a second interview. That by definition means you defeated the first round boss.

I think most people at some point in an interview give an answer that is not perfect and have the fleeting thought that they need to move to the Himalayas and herd yaks all by themselves. But there is a difference between “not the best answer” and “objectively terrible answer”.

It is really smart that you are writing down questions in advance.  My guess is that you are intelligent and conscientious and it showed in your first interview, which is how you got the second interview.

Good luck with your interview and they’d be lucky to have you!
