I’ve just moved into my first house from living with my parents. I’ve used the washing machine 3 times (It’s a brand new washing machine) I just opened it to put some washing in and it absolutely stinks. It’s not been used since Tuesday if that helps. I’ve been reading online and it says it could be a clogged vent. But I’ve only used it three times? I’ve now got an awful smell in my kitchen from it. I’ve put some washing in and I’m planning to then clean the drum?
Why does my washing machine smell of sewage?

When this happened to us there was a hair pin caught in the filter which meant water was stuck in there and going stagnant. Check the filter (usually front at the bottom) and have a bucket ready just in case
Make sure you keep the door slightly open when you’re not using it. This stops the small amount of water left inside becoming stagnant, which is where the smell comes from.
When you say “smells of sewage”, do you mean that literally? Even a damp, filthy washing machine should never smell like that. If it does, you likely have a drainage issue where the gases from your drain are returning back into the machine. Check around the back of the machine that the drain hose is still attached at the back and runs in an inverted “U” shape. Also check where the drain hose connects to your plumbing that you’ve got an S trap or a P trap, or any kind of “wiggly plumbing fixture” before the pipe enters the drain. These bendy features are designed to prevent the return of waste gas. Without them you may have this problem.
Check if the exhaust water hose is in the right position to maintain the water guard and prevent the smell from returning to the sewage pipe.
Every 2 weeks, use some cleaning product and run a short empty cycle.
I had this. The machine was plumbed into the waste pipe below the water trap so that sewer gas was coming up the pipe. You need to fit a u-bend to the outlet pipe.
This is becoming a daily question. The smell is most likely due to the bottom of the washing machine filling with waste water from the sink. The drain hose needs to be an inverted loop where the top of the loop is higher than the waste outlet of the sink. The waste water in the bottom of the machine may not be that dirty but it will start to smell after a few days.
assuming it’s not actually smells coming back from the drain, get a washing machine cleaner pack and run that rhrough,
If the machine is used less than a couple of times a week, leave the door ajar as already mentioned.
Check the filter
If this is a brand new machine check how far the drain hose is down the waste pipe. It only needs to be a few inches. If it’s been shoved all the way down the pipe it creates a Syphon effect and sucks the dirty waste water back into the machines drum meaning your clothes get washed in filthy water
