Have you ever had your call put live on air on a radio station?

r/

I’ve been really into 00s indie music lately as a DJ,and I stumbled upon 6Music’s Indie Forever…the DJ put a request line up for “What’s your favourite 00s indie tune” and since I spent an ungodly amount of time sorting through the UK charts and buying CDs of that time,I text in nervously with the tracks I put up (Boy Kill Boy,Vampire Weekend,The Kooks) They specifically wanted The Kooks (Go:Audio was my first choice but I get why they didn’t have it)…and clearly based off how much information I gave they ring me up quickly and say I’m going to be on air requesting it. I was shaky the whole way but I mentioned I found it off Q The Album 2008 and I made a huge chart entries document and playlists with all of 2008 in it, and the other tracks I remember from that album and their chart peaks. Probably not the most stable person to call into 6Music.

Did you ever call into a radio station? How did it go? How nervous were you? Did you alternatively prank the radio station? What’s the funniest call you’ve heard?

Alternatively, you could just ask about my humongous collection. All will suffice.

I did Lauren Laverne’s Desert Island Disco on 6Music a decade or so ago. Was nervous about it so drank some vodka and did a line of MPA (former legal high) just before the call which sorted me out. Lauren is lovely.

I was on the chain for radmac when they did weekday afternoons. I was nervous but they pretty much carried the conversation and were lovely

Never called a station but Nicky Campbell rang me once. Kind of. I was working for a local authority and we were running this community development project. His show got wind of it and called a number they’d found attached to the project. It was my direct one so I answered it whilst driving and this producer was pushy and like “shows on air now can you go on?”, so we did. Comms team went absolutely mental over it and I got roasted by management.
