What’s a small way people expose their deepest insecurities—without even realizing it?

r/

They over-explain things that no one asked them to justify. Like saying “I know this probably sounds dumb, but…” before sharing an idea. Or “I promise I’m not trying to bother you” before asking for something completely reasonable.

Or “I promise I’m not trying to pester you” before requesting something totally reasonable.
It’s sorta subtle, but it’s like their entire vibe is centered around cushioning the blow of rejection—’cause at some point they realized that being “too much” resulted in getting left behind.

It’s not a matter of attention. It’s protection. And the most “courteous” people are sometimes the ones who have felt like they were a burden their whole lives.
