What is the purpose of 4K porn?

r/

I doubt anyone’s going to notice any substantial quality differences when they are far too distracted by masturbation. So what exactly is the purpose of it? As somebody that really enjoys.. legally procuring content.. 4K media takes up a massive amount of space!! And I don’t exactly notice too much of a quality difference between that and 1080. Why would a person voluntarily download porn at all? With it being so free market and all, and if they were to, why would someone voluntarily download such a massive file?

    1. it’s more realistic. 2. you can’t notice the difference because 2160 literally is 4k.

Maybe they wanna get real close to the screen and look at the detail that interests them the most.

More generally, I have 4k monitors because of flight sim games and wanting to be able to see what that speck in the distance is. But 4k is just the new standard so everything should come in it, just like the first jump to HD, then from 720p to 1080p.

Getting more technical about this sort of thing, what matters are two things, field of view, and angular resolution. Which is to say, you want to fill your entire field of view with pixels too small to see. When you can’t see the pixels, you sit closer so you’ve got more monitor in your field of view. Modern VR by angular resolution is about on par with a standard viewing distance for an old tube TV, but 1440 x 1600 per eye, with high FoV by way of lenses. If I remember correctly, to fully fill the FoV with microscopic pixels, you’d need like 16k per eye at 300FPS.

2160 is the vertical resolution of a 4K video, so all 4K will be varying degrees of 2160 (like, 4096×2160 or 3840×2160 for example. Both are technically 4K, but 4096×2160 is “true 4K” while 3840×2160 is UHD.) That’s why you don’t notice much difference.

Go from that to 480p, or even 720p, and you’ll see why 4K is preferable! It’s a big step up.
