Do people in Asia also call the middle east the “middle east”?

Since from an Asian point of view, it’s more to the west than to the east, right? Shouldn’t they be calling it “middle west”?

People in California call Iowans “Midwesterners”, but presumably the relation between China or India and Arabia is too old to fall into that paradigm trap.

I’m in the Middle East (so technically Asia) and we call it the Middle East

In Hebrew the term is “המזרח התיכון” which literally translates to the Middle East so at least the Asian language I speak does call it that

Diplomatically it’s referred to as West Asia here in India. But most people don’t refer to that region as that, they usually call it the Arab countries or the Gulf countries.

East and west relative to the standard world map. Not relative to where the speaker is located. We call the US the west from within it, not because it’s west of us.
