Every time I buy a bag of assorted nuts, I brace myself for disappointment because I already know what’s coming—an overwhelming majority of cashews. It’s like companies have decided that cashews are the ultimate filler nut, and I’m absolutely sick of it.
I remember a time when “assorted” actually meant a balanced mix—almonds, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, maybe even a macadamia or two if you were lucky. Now? You rip open a bag, and it’s at least 60% cashews, maybe a few lonely almonds, and if you’re really lucky, a single pecan hiding at the bottom like it got lost on the way to a better nut mix.
Cashews have become the lowest common denominator of nut blends. They’re soft, kind of bland, and way too sweet for my taste. Meanwhile, the better nuts—almonds, pecans, walnuts—are getting edged out in favor of these mediocre, mass-produced space-fillers. It’s like buying a fruit salad and finding out it’s 80% honeydew.
I get that cashews are probably cheaper to source, but if I wanted a bag full of them, I’d just buy cashews. I want assorted nuts, not a cashew-dominated conspiracy.

this post is cashews
Only for people who lack taste!! 🙄
Cashews everything around me, cream get the money
I feel the same but not about cashews. It’s the hazelnuts, Brazil nuts and a few others that taste like dust and shouldn’t be in the mix. Now, I buy pure play jars of nuts and make my own mixes.
The Cashews are my favorite part. We should work out a symbiotic relationship.
My favorite in mixed nuts is Brazil Nuts and most brands put like 3 in a can.
Oh man. That’s hard to read.
I don’t hate cashews but I do sometimes find them excessively creamy.
Also, they’re quite expensive which makes them a weird filler nut…
