Why are thin people called “skinny”? Wouldn’t it make sense to call fat people “skinny” because they have a lot more skin?

    I figure it came from ‘skin and bones’, an old way to describe someone who is very thin.

    Square cube law. A larger object has a smaller surface to interior ratio. So a fat person has more skin, But less skin as a ratio to the rest of their body.

    Technically fat people have more fat than skin. There is a mathematical formula for volume vs surface area that proves that.

    Fat people can be called “meaty”. They have a lot more meat.

    Thin people can be called “skinny”. Their skins are more visible.
